The Career Center Celebrates Career Development Month with Handshake Activation Prizes!
In honor of Career Development Month, the Career Center is encouraging students to register their Handshake Job Board account and complete their profile for a chance to win gift cards!
- Students who activate their Handshake account by the end of the day on Nov. 30 will automatically be entered into a drawing for one of two $50 Amazon gift cards.
- Additionally, students who fully complete their Handshake profile by Nov. 30 will be entered into a drawing for one of two $100 Amazon gift cards.
Winners will be notified in December.
Monday Morning Mentor
This week’s Monday Morning Mentor is, “How Can I Help Students Become Comfortable with the Uncomfortable?” The online presentation is available Nov. 4 and on-demand for one week. You will need to enter the password in order to view the program: comfortable566.
Access to the programs in the Monday Morning Mentor series is restricted to members of the subscribing institution. Any unauthorized use or access, including sharing access with faculty and staff not affiliated with the subscribing institution, is prohibited.
In the Community
The LLCC Child Development Center was a fun stop for trick-or-treaters during Zoolie Ghoulie at the Henson-Robinson Zoo last week. 
Brenda Protz, professor of communication, was the featured speaker at Jacksonville High School’s recent National English Honor Society induction. The organization recognizes high school students who excel in English language, literature, writing, journalism and related fields.
BSU to sponsor Jeans Day Nov. 6
LLCC’s Black Student Union is sponsoring a Jeans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 6 to raise funds for their scholarship. Each year a student will be awarded funds to help with tuition, fees and books.
Faculty and staff can wear jeans with a minimum donation of $5 to be paid in LLCC Student Life (lower level, Menard Hall). A sticker to wear on Jeans Day will be given to those who donate.
BLOOD IS MEDICINE
There is no substitute for human blood, and blood is medicine for those battling cancer. Around 25% of the blood supply goes to cancer patients, and without volunteer donors this would not be possible.
Please plan to join us on Tuesday, Nov. 12 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons to donate. Schedule an appointment online.
For donating, you will receive your choice of the following:
• A $10 gift card ($25 gift card for double red)

Early Alert workgroup survey deadline today
The Early Alert workgroup is investigating how we can use an early alert system to improve student retention. LLCC’s current Early Alert system is used by some faculty members to report grades at specific times throughout the semester, but it does not have widespread use. Since every LLCC employee interacts with students in some capacity, we would like to hear your ideas on how we can support students through an early alert intervention. Please think about any conversations you’ve had or overheard with students where they have described a gap in service or a barrier they have experienced. We want to gather input from the LLCC community and encourage you to complete a brief survey by Nov. 1.

Submit Veterans Day recognition form
The college will honor veterans at its 29th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony, sponsored by LLCC Student Life. The ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11 in A. Lincoln Commons with a reception to follow. This event honors all veterans, including LLCC faculty, staff and students who served in the armed forces, and it is open to the public.
