Paul Simon Essay Contest

Submissions to the Paul Simon Essay Contest are due no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, March 19. Please remind students of the opportunity to submit an essay.

Essays should consist of 500 typed words on the topic “How My Community College Changed My Life.” Students can schedule appointments in the LLCC Writing Center to get help planning and revising their essays for the contest. The top LLCC essay submission will be forwarded on to the statewide competition for a chance to win a $500 scholarship for the fall 2021 semester. Local prizes are also awarded to first, second and third place LLCC submissions courtesy of the LLCC Foundation and the LLCC Bookstore.

Each week, Academic Innovation and eLearning is sending out a link to a different Monday Morning Mentor program by MAGNA Publications. Each topic is presented by respected academic peers and covers timely and relevant topics in only 20 minutes — brief enough to fit busy schedules, but long enough to deliver valuable, actionable content.

Professional Development Day March 30

Spring 2021 Professional Development Day will be held on March 30. The day offers a wide variety of sessions that include both live and on demand professional development opportunities. A March 5 email from HR includes the schedule of sessions. Please make note of any sessions that require pre-registration and follow the instructions provided.

Update on Lincoln Landing app for students

Beginning today, March 15, there is a single sign-on for the Lincoln Landing app for student health screening. Email invites are no longer required. Students should download the app on their smart device or search on the web by entering “Lincoln-Landing.app.” They can then log on with their LLCC credentials.

As a reminder, any student arriving on campus for any activity is required to complete the health screening form via the Lincoln Landing app. Faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to ensure students have completed the app as they arrive to campus by asking to view the students’ “badge.” Students who have not completed the screening should be asked to do so prior to entering the classroom.

For those students who do not have a smart device, they may take a photo of their badge (if able) or print their badge and present this upon arrival. Please know the badges are date and time stamped. Paper screenings can be completed if needed for students and should be kept on file by the department, faculty or staff member. The student can be given a copy to keep with them for the day to show to staff when asked. The date should be on the paper form.

Submit an IDI Grant application yet today

Innovation in Diversity and Inclusion (IDI) Grant applications are due by end of day today, March 15.

The IDI Grant is an internal opportunity for any LLCC faculty, staff, student or department, and can be used to address a need and/or to promote and celebrate diversity. For additional information and helpful resources (standards of evaluation, project samples and more) are available on the Innovation in Diversity & Inclusion Grant SharePoint page (be sure you’re logged in to Office 365 to access).

SharePoint training

The IT department is offering free workshops in March in conjunction with Microsoft. Each session will be 60 minutes in length and attended via Teams. Registration for each session is required and managed by Microsoft, not IT. After registering, you will be sent the link in a join the event via email.

March 16, 2-3 p.m. – Microsoft SharePoint Online L100

This course focuses on SharePoint team sites. Attendees will learn how to share and manage content, find information and collaborate across their organization.

March 30, 1:30-2:30 p.m. – Microsoft SharePoint Online L200

This course expands on more advanced features of SharePoint sites, focusing on site ownership and architecture. Attendees of this course can expect to learn about sharing and permissions, workflow management and content types.

LLCC Academic Innovation & eLearning spring 2021 professional development workshops are being offered in three different formats: online, live via Zoom and on-demand. Workshops cover both teaching topics and instructional technology tools. There are also many opportunities, both live and on-demand, to learn to use the new Canvas learning management system. Transfer Tuesday

This week’s Transfer Tuesday, from 1-2:30 p.m. on Zoom, features Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, Eastern Illinois University, University of Missouri – St. Louis and Bradley University. LLCC students looking to continue their education after graduation by transferring to a four-year institution can meet with a college representative, who will be able to show videos/pictures, share documents and talk with students.

Students interested in attending should contact their student success coach for more information and the Zoom link.

LLCC closed for mid-semester break March 6-14

LLCC will be closed for mid-semester recess Saturday, March 6 through Sunday, March 14. No classes will be held, and all administrative offices at the Springfield campus and LLCC Outreach Centers will be closed. Classes and regular business hours will resume Monday, March 15.

LLCC-Medical District, located at 130 W. Mason, Springfield, will maintain regular hours.
