CCSSE Survey Results Discussion Today

LLCC participated in the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) last spring. IRE will host two CCSSE discussions of our results. A student services focus will take place today, Nov. 7, from 2-3 p.m. The academic services focus is scheduled for Nov. 13, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Both events will be held in Menard Hall, Room 2268 and are open to everyone at the college.

Public Service Careers Expo today

The LLCC Career Center is hosting a Public Service Careers Expo today from 9 a.m. to noon in A. Lincoln Commons. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore careers in the public sector, with representatives from 20 state agencies and several local and federal agencies in attendance. This is a casual, exploratory event where students can learn about job opportunities in public service, meet professionals from various government agencies and ask questions about potential career paths. While students are not expected to dress formally or bring a resume, they are welcome to do so if they wish.

We believe this event will be valuable for students, whether they are just starting to think about their career paths or are more certain of their future plans in public service. Please consider sharing this information with your students and encouraging them to attend.

LLCC honors veterans at 29th annual Veterans Day Ceremony Nov. 11

United States flagsLLCC will honor veterans at its 29th annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11. The ceremony begins at 12:30 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons on the LLCC-Springfield campus, and a reception will follow. The public is invited to attend.

The program includes Gordon Gates, LLCC Board of Trustees Chair, serving as master of ceremonies; K. William Hudson, LLCC student and retired Technical Sergeant with the United States Air Force, providing remarks; LLCC Student Trustee Braden Nicoll presenting the wreath; Quentin Brackenridge singing the national anthem; and Ryan O’Neal, LLCC student, playing “Taps.”

The Veterans Day Ceremony is sponsored by LLCC Student Life and honors all veterans including LLCC faculty, staff and students who served in the armed forces.

National Radiologic Technology Week Trivia

Continuing the celebration of National Radiologic Technology … would you believe?

Did you know that Wilhelm Roentgen was awarded the first Nobel Prize for Physics in 1901? His discovery of X-rays made him a celebrity, and he had many honors bestowed upon him: to include streets named after him, countless honorary doctorates and prizes, and even the title of German nobility (which he rejected). With all this, would you believe that Roentgen died penniless? He refused to patent his discovery because he believed his work should be available to everyone.

Application for IDI Grant is Now Open!

The Innovation in Diversity and Inclusion (IDI) grant is an opportunity for LLCC employees, departments, and students/student clubs to receive support in addressing or celebrating inclusivity and diversity at LLCC. Categories to consider include training, teaching and learning, recruitment and retention, and environment and processes.

The application is open online through Wednesday, Dec. 4 and applicants will be notified prior to winter break. There is $5,000 available to be awarded in fall 2024 for activities in spring 2025.
