Wellness screenings, flu shots and health fair

There is still time to sign up for the wellness screening and flu shot clinic on Oct. 10 in the Student Union in Menard Hall. There will be one more opportunity on Oct. 23. View the Oct. 2 email from HR for the link and program code to sign up!

Benefit-eligible employees are eligible to participate at no charge.  Spouses of benefit-eligible employees who are on a LLCC health insurance plan are also eligible to participate at no charge.  Benefit-eligible employees who complete the health risk assessment survey and a blood draw will receive a $50 Visa gift card!

Employees are also invited to attend the Health & Wellness Fair on Oct. 10, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union. This is a great opportunity to focus on your health and wellness while connecting with local resources. There will be more than 20 area vendors on site offering valuable information, samples and services to help you on your wellness journey. You can look forward to:

  • LLCC culinary student program demos
  • Local gym demo from Farrell’s of Springfield
  • Free chair massages from Inner Health Spa

Cast your vote for Cutest Pet on Institutional Improvement Day!

Cute puppyThe LLCC Cutest Pet Contest is currently underway to support the United Way campaign. On Institutional Improvement Day this Friday, there will be voting tables set up in two locations on main campus with photos of all the pets and a QR code to vote. Tables will be located in the A. Lincoln Commons lobby near the Info Desk and in the Kreher Agriculture Center lobby.

The contest will run until end of the day on Oct. 11. Donations to United Way are made by casting your vote for the cutest pet(s) of LLCC faculty and staff. You may vote for multiple pets, more than once. You can also vote through this online link.

Other ways to support LLCC’s United Way campaign include through employee payroll deduction. You may also make an outright gift via credit card or check. Learn more about United Way and make your pledge on the LLCC United Way donation page.

Last day for Bistro To Go this semester

Bistro To Go in the Workforce Careers Center
Today is the last day for Bistro To Go this semester. The student-run café is open as a counter service concept, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering soups, salads, sandwiches, baked goods, coffees and drinks. The Bistro To Go menu and online to-go orders are available at www.llcc.edu/bistro-verde.

Beginning Oct. 22, the restaurant will re-open with a fine dining concept, offering a full-service lunch experience that features appetizers, soups, salads, desserts, coffees and drinks.

Bistro Verde is located inside the east entrance of the Workforce Careers Center on the LLCC campus in Springfield.

“Stop the Bleed” Training

LLCC Health Professions is offering two “Stop the Bleed” sessions tomorrow, Oct. 4, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. in Logan Hall, Room 1112. The class will cover how and when to manage life altering bleeding as well as time to practice the skills presented. This training goes hand in hand with the “Stop the Bleed” kits that have been added to all the AED locations across the campus and outreach centers. Space is limited. To sign up, email Nick Ferreira. Walk-ins are also welcome, as space allows.

Trutter Museum/Murray Gallery featuring works from permanent collection

Painting with tones of blue, green and brown.LLCC is featuring select works from the college’s permanent collection through Nov. 1. The exhibit can be viewed in the Trutter Museum/Murray Gallery, located in Menard Hall, on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The exhibit showcases a selection of two-dimensional works. These pieces, which have circulated through LLCC’s campus hallways and offices over the years, are either familiar, newly refreshed or ready to begin a new display rotation once construction in their usual locations is completed. This exhibit offers a brief spotlight for a few of these pieces before they resume their tour across the campus.

Tones of deep red, blue and purple.The mission of LLCC’s permanent collection is to offer the college and its community a public display of art throughout campus, aimed at broadening visual knowledge, increasing aesthetic awareness and celebrating creativity; to provide students with the opportunity to view, study and appreciate original works of art, focusing on various aspects such as media, technique, aesthetics and style; and to create an aesthetically pleasing environment that enhances both learning and work.

Over the years, the LLCC’s permanent collection has expanded to include artwork created by students and faculty, pieces purchased by the college and generous donations. The collection also now includes a substantial number of pieces from the Trutter family’s donation of art and artifacts.

Save the date! Take a tour of student services in Menard Hall

Remodeling of the new facilities for LLCC Student Services in Menard Hall is nearing completion! Faculty and staff are invited to take a tour of the new facilities on Monday, Oct. 7. Tours will be available 1-3 p.m., and Student Services staff will be on hand to point out the new features of the space.

A press conference and ribbon cutting for is set for earlier that day at 10:30 a.m.
