As our last day arrives, we are taking this opportunity to thank everyone who had a part in putting together the wonderful celebration for our upcoming retirements. Vickie Ward, Eileen Tepatti, Claire Gordon and Amy Williams did an outstanding job of planning and pulling surprises; Mary Ellen Monroe-White, Jeri Buckner, Ali White and Mary Flesch for helping serve; Becky Parton and Carl Jones for the video and Julie McKinney along with facilities services for the set-up of the room. Thank you to everyone who attended and wished us well through kind words and cards with good wishes.

Honors Club recognized for efforts in “Be a Hero” Organ/Tissue Donor Campaign

Out of 21 community colleges participating, LLCC won second place in the Secretary of State’s “Be a Hero” Organ/Tissue Donor Campaign. Secretary White cited LLCC’s creative campaign that included numerous registration drives, a press conference, and using social media to encourage donation.

IMG_7411Accepting the award at the ceremony Wednesday were Board of Trustees Chair Justin Reichert, liaison Joanie Rogers of the LLCC Foundation, Honors Club members Russell Michelich and Tyler Mathews, and Honors Club advisors Dr. Claire Gordon and David Laubersheimer.

In addition to this plaque, LLCC received one paid, student internship through Donate Life Illinois Partners. The internship was awarded to Tyler Mathews, one of the leaders of the campaign. He will serve the internship at Memorial Medical Center.

Important Health/Dental Insurance & Flexible Spending Account Information

Open enrollment for health/dental insurance and flexible spending accounts runs through Thursday, June 5th.  Please review the following information carefully:

Flexible Spending Account Enrollment

For those individuals who wish to contribute to a flexible spending account or who are taking a LLCC contribution to a flexible spending account in lieu of health insurance coverage, you must complete an online enrollment by Thursday, June 5th.  (Online enrollment instructions 2014)  The annual maximum contribution to a medical flexible spending account is $2,500 (includes both employee and employer contributions).  To enroll, please go to www.alliedbenefit.com and follow the attached instructions.  If you do not complete an enrollment by June 5th, you will not be enrolled in a flexible spending account beginning July 1, 2014.

Health/Dental Insurance Enrollment

You must complete an online enrollment for health/dental insurance coverage at www.alliedbenefit.com ONLY under the following conditions:

  • You wish to change health insurance plans; and/or
  • You wish to add/drop dependents

If you are not making one of the two changes listed above, you do not need to complete the online enrollment form and your current health and/or dental coverage will continue as is beginning July 1, 2014.

New to the HDHP/Health Savings Account Plan?

If you are moving to the HDHP plan and opening a health savings account (HSA), but still have questions about a HSA, a representative from United Community Bank will be on-campus June 3rd to answer your HSA questions and/or open an account for you.  Look for an announcement on Monday with a time and location.

Health Beat—mumps cases and immunization

As many of you are aware from recent news reports, the Sangamon County Department of Public Health has reported 15 cases of the mumps this year with 14 of the cases in adults, ages 25-53 years of age.  Mumps is a contagious disease that is caused by the mumps virus.  Mumps typically starts with a few days of fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness and loss of appetite and is followed by swelling of the salivary glands.  Other more serious symptoms can occur in rare cases, including meningitis, swelling of the testes or ovaries and inflammation of the joints.

Loggers finish season at NJCAA World Series

The Loggers baseball team advanced to the NJCAA World Series in Enid, Oklahoma over the Memorial Day weekend. The team lost its opener to Hinds Community College, and was eliminated when defeated by #1 ranked Mesa Community College 9-0. The Loggers finish at 44-17. Congratulations on a great season!

Misty AndrewMisty Hagstrom, graphic design specialist, Public Relations and Marketing, and Andrew Blaylock, director of campus services, are LLCC’s latest graduates of Leadership Springfield, sponsored by the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce. A graduation ceremony was held May 21. Congratulations!

Andrew Dewey, LLCC’s commencement speaker, was interviewed by WLDS Radio (click HERE to hear the story) and the Jacksonville Journal- Courier regarding his commencement speech and his journey from rehab and homelessness to an associate degree. The Brian McMillen Walk/Run Saturday attracted over 500 participants and was covered in this story on WICS. Craig McFarland, financial aid advisor, was interviewed.

Amber Berman, program assistant, Student Life, penned this essay for the State Journal-Register, published May 25, entitled “Dare to step up and step out.” Amber was recently named “Campus Advisor of the Year” by United Way Worldwide.

NOTICE REGARDING DEPOSITS

The deadline to submit your deposits to the Finance Department is Wednesday, May 28th. As a reminder, if you’ve taken in funds, it is necessary to submit them and corresponding deposit slips to the Finance Department on a daily basis. If you have questions, please contact Elyse Calhoun at ext. 62204 or Robin Ackman at ext. 62762. Thank you!

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM PAYROLL

In order to maintain compliance with Federal and State regulations, we have determined that it is necessary for us to change our current procedure of issuing payroll direct deposits a day in advance of the actual payroll date.

Beginning with the May 31, 2014 payroll, all direct deposits and payroll checks will have the same issue date. Direct deposits will no longer be credited a day in advance. Per federal bank regulations, banks must make payroll direct deposits available to customers no later than the time that the bank opens for business on the effective date of the deposit.

There is no change to the current procedure for issuing payroll checks. Checks may be picked up in person in the Human Resources office between 9:00am and 3:00pm on the day of payroll. Any payroll checks not picked up by 3:00pm will be mailed.

These events will also be listed on the “College, Events, Athletics” Calendars available in Outlook.
