Open registration begins today!

Open registration for the spring 2014 semester, Mod III, Mod IV and short semester begins today. A new student orientation session is being held today from 5:30-9 p.m. Account activation will be in the former Menard Hall entryway by the Student Services Center, with the welcome session being held in Menard Hall, room 2209.

Professional Development Day a success

A large crowd attended the Professional Development Day keynote address by journalist and author Jefffrey Selingo, author of “College (Un)bound.” Later, faculty and staff discussed issues raised in his talk. group smallOther sessions covered flipping the classroom, emotional intelligence, diversity, bullying, stress relief and other topics.

Our condolences to Mary Carry

We extend our condolences to Mary Carry, human resources assistant, whose mother, Erma Elliott, passed away Saturday in Flint, Mich.  A memorial service is being held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 29 at the MacAlpine Funeral Home, 302 N. Hanselman St., Bad Axe, Mich. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Linda Chriswell, special needs professional, and Maryjane Million, operations analyst, LLCC-Jacksonville/Beardstown, were quoted in this article in the Jacksonville Journal-Courier Oct. 25 about the “Fall Festival Celebrating Exceptional People” held at LLCC-Jacksonville Oct. 24. A unique class project gave residents of two group homes a chance to enjoy pumpkin decorating, face painting, balloon animals, games. The event was planned and hosted by LLCC students as part of their “exceptional child” education coursework.

Scott Stallman, executive director, LLCC-Taylorville/Litchfield/Hillsboro, was interviewed Oct. 25 for an article in the Taylorville Breeze-Courier regarding an upcoming construction project at LLCC-Taylorville, pending ICCB approval, along with enrollment increases in that education service area.

Bill Harmon, professor of agronomy, and two LLCC ag students were interviewed Oct. 25 by Sports Radio 1450 while in Bloomington for the Illinois Post-secondary Agriculture Student (PAS) Fall Conference. LLCC had 15 students competing in seven different areas.

Four LLCC students were featured in this inspiring story by SJR’s Dave Bakke Oct. 25. Cancer brought them together as their friendship has grown.

BSU Jeans Day fundraiser for diabetes

The Black Student Union is hosting a Jeans Day for World Diabetes Day on Thursday, Nov. 14. Please stop by the Student Life Office with $5 to purchase your sticker so you can wear jeans on that day and help support the American Diabetes Association. BSU will also have a table that in A. Lincoln Commons from noon-2pm with a representative from the ADA to answer any questions you may have regarding diabetes and the organization.

Community campaign through United Way begins!

Today through Nov. 8, you are invited to make a difference for those in need in our community by donating to our giving campaign through United Way. A letter was sent to your campus mailbox with a donation form and letter from LLCC President Charlotte Warren. Learn more about how your donation helps others in this video featuring LLCC student Brandon Von Liski, a client of SPARC, a United Way agency. Brandon will also speak briefly at Professional Development Day. The United Way committee will have a table with information, candy, prizes, free pens and notepads and donation forms at the Professional Development Day luncheon in Cass Gym. Monday, Oct. 28 through Friday, Nov. 1 – Honors Club “Pie Your Professor” fundraiser to benefit Make-A-Wish® Illinois. Tickets sold for a chance to throw a pie in A. Lincoln Commons, 9:00am 5:00pm each day.  Actual Pie Throwing will take place Nov. 6.
