Panel discussion featuring LLCC faculty to follow final performance of “The Shadows of Edgar Allan Poe” Sunday

LLCC Theatre is hosting a panel discussion following the 2 p.m. performance of “The Shadows of Edgar Allan Poe” Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Hoogland Center for the Arts.

Audience members are welcome to join in the discussion led by LLCC English faculty members Marlene Emmons, who will provide background on Poe and his detective stories, and Eric Stachera, who will discuss “Annabel Lee,” one of the cornerstones of the theatre piece. Other panelists are Mark Hardiman, director and theatre professor, and James Seay, teacher, actor and dramaturg for the production.

The production will also be performed Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Hoogland Center, 420 South 6th St., by calling 217-523-2787 or online at www.hcfta.org.

This world premiere production is a 90-minute immersive experience, featuring creative staging of Poe’s famous masterpieces including “The Raven,” “The Tell-Tale Heart,” and “The Pit and the Pendulum,” among others. The stories are told through a juxtaposition of light and shadow, original music and mesmerizing movement.

Students and staff of the Illinois School for the Deaf in Jacksonville have been invited to attend a special dress rehearsal performance on Thursday.

LLCC-Litchfield staff dressed up as “LLCC Degree Trees” and walked in the 2014 LLCC-Litchfield in paradeLitchfield Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade the evening of Nov. 21. The “Degree Trees” disbursed LLCC pens/pencils and candy to the crowd.

Our sympathy to Teresa Rigney

We extend our sympathy to Teresa Rigney, program assistant, Athletics, whose father, Charles Rigney, passed away Nov. 29. Visitation is this morning, 9:30-11, followed by services at 11 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Belleville.

New study documents significant economic impact of LLCC

A new study documents how LLCC significantly impacts the local economy by increasing workers’ earning potential, generating additional tax revenues, and serving as one of the largest employers in the area.

The study, compiled by the Center for Governmental Studies at Northern Illinois University under agreement with the Illinois Community College Board, states that LLCC contributes to the vitality of its service area in many ways: educationally, culturally, recreationally, civically and economically.

Participate in Murray Gallery “A Community Sketchbook” exhibit

The LLCC James S. Murray Gallery invites all faculty, staff, students and community members to display their artworks during the month of December at an exhibit called “A Community Sketchbook.”

Exhibitors are welcome to tack their piece of visual art (or short prose or poetry) to the grey walls of the gallery to create a temporary, transmutable mural and tribute to the creativity of the LLCC community. “A Community Sketchbook” will be open for contributions beginning Dec. 1. All pieces must be able to be pinned to the walls, with pins provided by the gallery (no nails may be used.) The gallery cannot accommodate framed or stretched work. Also, when entering into the conversation, artists are asked to consider the audience. The gallery director reserves the right to edit any offensive or inappropriate material. Insurance cannot be provided for this show.

Simultaneously on display at the center of the gallery will be a show of tin foil hat designs from Dr. John Vinzant’s Introduction to Politics classes. Every hat is accompanied with a short statement explaining the “conspiracy” from which the design of the hat will protect the wearer. An award will go to the best tin foil hat design/conspiracy combination.

Participants in both shows must collect their work from the gallery before Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. Work remaining after that time becomes the property of the gallery. For more information, contact Leslie Stalter, art professor.

LLCC Foundation L.E.A.G.U.E. grants due Dec. 5

A reminder that applications for L.E.A.G.U.E. grants are due in the LLCC Foundation Friday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. Approximately $10,000 will be awarded at the L.E.A.G.U.E. kickoff on March 24, 2015.
