Sustainability Team meeting minutes posted

At its May 5 meeting, the Sustainability Team discussed the ACUPCC report and efforts to reduce electricity/gas and paper usage on campus as a part of it. Read more about this, composting and Earth Week, as well as find out who newly elected members to the team are in the posted minutes.

Several Menard hallways to be closed next week

Facilities Services would like to notify all faculty and staff that as part of the Menard Hall carpet replacement project, the hallway from M 1165 to M 1168 as well as the hallway from M 1172 to M 1179 will be closed from Monday, May 18th to Sunday, June 7th. All classrooms in these areas will be inaccessible as well during this phase of the project.

Craig McFarland, financial aid advisor, was named the Lella M. Schaaf Advisor of the Year at the annual Student Recognition Ceremony.  Craig advises the LLCC Veterans Club. Congratulations!

Congrats to new graduates of Project Redesign

GradsCongratulations to the most recent group to complete Project Redesign through the Instructional Technology and Distance Education department. The Project Redesign program is a faculty professional development program for current online faculty led by Jason Dockter, Ph.D. (left).  New graduates of the 10-week program are Dave Cox, Dean Butzow, Melinda P. Kaye, and David Leitner, Ph.D. In the program, participants discuss current online teaching and learning methods, course design processes, and online learning technical tools. Faculty share and discuss experiences and issues related to online teaching and learning, while also redesigning a current online course they teach.

Jazzin’ for Jack concert tonight

The LLCC Big Band presents Jazzin’ for Jack–a Benefit Concert for CFC Syndrome tonight, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, 6th and Cook, Springfield.

The concert features the LLCC Big Band with Courtney Fleck, soloist; Kevin Carman, guitarist; and Alex Lang, trombonist. The band will perform vintage charts, such as “Pennsylvania 65000,” “Misty,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,”  and “Sing, Sing, Sing,” along with funk charts, such as “September,” and “Shining Star.”

Donations are being accepted for CFC Syndrome – Cardiofasciocutaneous Syndrome.  Jack Waddell, son of Jason Waddell, instructor of music, has CFC Syndrome. Read more about CFC Syndrome HERE.

KUDOS award nomination deadline today

Nominate a deserving colleague by 5 p.m. TODAY for the next KUDOS awards to be announced Wednesday. Click on the KUDOS image below or the KUDOS tab in the upper right corner of LincIn.

The KUDOS award is an informal way to recognize the small and large ways Kudos logoour faculty and staff contribute to the positive environment that is LLCC. The person you nominate will receive a KUDOS certificate, with winners announced in LincIn, along with what they did to deserve the award. A nominator has the option for his/her name to be published or to remain anonymous in any LLCC correspondence. However, nominations must include the nominator’s name for the nominee to be recognized. Brighten someone’s day and say “thank you, great job!” with the KUDOS award.

Environmental Club tomato plants available for pickup

If you haven’t yet picked up your order of tomato plants from the Environmental Club, you can stop by the Biology Greenhouse between noon and 3 p.m. TODAY, May 11. If you are unable to pick them up at that time, contact Becky Croteau (786-2369) or Peggy Goetsch (786-9622) and they will arrange to meet you.

Epicurean Club Ice Cream Social Tomorrow

LLCC employees and students are invited to the Epicurean Club Ice Cream Social Tuesday, May 12 from 2-4 p.m. in Bistro Verde of the Workforce Careers Center. For $5, enjoy assorted housemade ice creams and toppings.  Liquid nitrogen ice cream demonstrations will be at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Midday yoga being offered this summer

Midday yoga is a perfect lunch hour treat! Community Education is offering an eight-week course for all levels, beginners or advanced. The class meets Wednesdays, June 10-July 29 from 1-2 p.m. Cost is $79; course code CEW 802-01A. Register today through WebAdvisor.

Pearson Master Teacher and Distinguished Service Award winners announced

Michael Ramm smallDist Serv Award smallDr. Michael Ramm, professor of chemistry, was named the 2015 Drs. Raymond and Ann Pearson Master Teacher at yesterday’s Employee Recognition Ceremony. Congratulations Michael! Finalists for the prestigious honor included Dr. Anthony DiMaggio, Dr. Jason Dockter, Eve Fischberg and Rebecca Klatt.

Distinguished Service Award winners were administrator: Susan Simpson, director of institutional research; professional: Robin Ackman, student accounts manager; classified: Linda Cunningham, assistant to the vice president of student services; faculty: Leslie Rios, assistant professor, librarian. Congratulations!

Also, employees serving 25, 20, 15, 10 and five years were recognized, along with retirees Melinda Catteau, Jay Kitterman and Brenda Brown. (Several other retirees were recognized in absentia: Barb Charlton, Teresa Dickey-Rogers, Donald Jones, Russell Kuster, Charles Nichols, Beverly Provines and Jan Terry.)

The newest member of LLCC’s group of Faculty Emeriti, Mary Ellen Monroe-White, along with NISOD Excellence Award recipients Sharon Cheek, professor of radiography, and Paula Hermes, programmer analyst, were also recognized.
