Life, LTD, critical illness/accident insurance open enrollment ends Tuesday

A reminder that forms are due in the Human Resources office by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24 for the life, LTD, critical illness and accident insurance open enrollment.

Long-Term Disability Insurance: A personalized enrollment form was sent to you via your campus mailbox. If you did not receive the form, please contact the HR office. If you are a current LTD plan participant, please note that you must complete the enrollment form if you wish to continue your coverage. If we do not receive your form, your coverage will end Dec. 31, 2015. As of yesterday, there were still over 100 current plan participants who had not submitted their form.

Life Insurance: During open enrollment, you have an opportunity to increase your life insurance coverage. A personalized enrollment form was sent to you via your campus mailbox. If you did not receive the form, please contact the HR office. Your personalized form contains your current coverage information to assist in your decision-making process.

Critical Illness and Accident Insurance: These are two voluntary benefits that were introduced one year ago. Attached to this email is information about both types of coverage, an enrollment form and instructions for completing the enrollment form if you wish to participate in one or both of these insurance benefits. Current plan participants are not required to complete the enrollment form if they wish to continue their coverage.

FYE 101: First-Year Experience being offered this spring

This spring a new course, FYE 101: First-Year Experience, is being offered to help students transition successfully to college. In this course, students will experience, discuss, write about and apply knowledge, skills, behaviors, strategies and mindsets that help them succeed in college. This course empowers students to develop inner qualities that assist in making wise decisions, which result in the outcomes and experiences they desire. Students learn how to think critically about and prepare for their academic and career pathways. FYE 101 can be used as elective credit and transferred to a four-year college or university.

Highlights:
• Interactive, student-centered teaching
• Success groups for students to support one another
• Help constructing a transfer or career plan
• Improvement in key areas to help students achieve their goals
• Strategies and skills to create success in college and life

Facilities Services conducting testing of generator system Nov. 27

Facilities Services is conducting testing of the electrical generator system beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 27. Power outages in Sangamon Hall, Menard Hall, Cass Gym, Millennium Center and  Trutter Center are necessary during these tests. Notes about upcoming campus events

Thursday, Nov. 19 – Parking Lot #1 will be reserved to accommodate valet parking for LLCC Foundation Donor Scholarship Reception, 5-7 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 21 – Jingle Bell Run activities, 8 a.m.-noon/run at 10 a.m. Police and Security will be directing traffic at the main entrance of campus. There may be some delay upon entering campus shortly after 10 a.m. and traffic will be reduced to one lane during run.

Monday, Nov. 23 – Parking Lot #10 will be reserved for bus parking to accommodate LLCC’s Agriculture Career Expo, 9:30 a.m.–2 p.m.

Community College Completion Corps continues through Friday

Phi Theta Kappa (with assistance from Student Government Association) is conducting a “Community College Completion Corps” (“C4”) event in A. Lincoln Commons every day this week (Nov. 16-20) from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Both students and employees are being asked to sign a pledge card and a banner, showing their commitment and support for students completing their degrees. Participants will get free popcorn and a C4 sticker to wear! The ESAs in Beardstown and Litchfield campuses are also hosting this event.

Interested employees should stop by the C4 table and sign a pledge card and banner. You can also help by encouraging students to sign a pledge card. This semi-annual event is intended to further promote a culture valuing completion at LLCC. Every participant counts!

Notice regarding end-of-the-month deposits

The deadline to submit your deposits to the Finance Department is Tuesday, Nov. 24 at noon. As a reminder, if you’ve taken in funds, it is necessary to submit them and corresponding deposit slips to the Finance Department on a daily basis. Please hand the deposit to Elyse Calhoun, Libby Elder or Robin Ackman as monies should not be left unattended. If you have questions, please contact Elyse at ext. 62204 or Robin at ext. 62762. Barb Bernardi, professor of biology and 2013 Pearson Master Teacher, is featured tonight, Nov. 19 on the local PBS program Illinois Stories (Comcast Cable Channel 8) at 7 p.m. The program about her work with alpacas will also air Sunday Nov. 22 at 4 p.m. and Monday Nov. 23 at 6:30 p.m.

“My Tried and True Thanksgiving Recipes” by Nancy Sweet, director, culinary program and operations, was yesterday’s Epicuriosity 101 column in the State Journal-Register.

Important notice regarding employee tuition waiver

To all full-time employees who plan on using the employee tuition waiver for themselves or their qualified dependents for spring 2016:

If you register before Dec. 2, please complete and submit your tuition waiver application to Human Resources no later than Nov. 30, 2015. That will ensure the waiver will be notated on your account, which will prevent your classes from being dropped.

If you anticipate registering after Dec. 2, please submit your tuition waiver application to Human Resources either before or the day of your registration so your account can be notated in a timely manner.
