Ag Club collects 1,515 pounds of food for Central Illinois Foodbank!

The LLCC Ag Club just finished their annual food drive collection to support the Central Illinois Foodbank and fight hunger in our Ag Club Food Drive communities. The club sponsored the event as a contest among the agriculture classes, with the class that brought in the most food getting breakfast served to them by the club. The winning class was Rich Teeter’s ABM 105 Crop Production, followed closely by the AFO 250 Plant Operations class. The club set a new record for its collection, bringing in 1,515 pounds of food. Special thanks goes to LLCC ag alum Cameron Ayers of Rochester for his donation.

EHST winter weather safety tips

With winter weather right around the corner the Environmental Health and Safety Team (EHST) would like to remind everyone that although snow and ice can make accidents like slips and falls more likely, a little prevention can go a long way.

Consider the following safety tips:
• Stay informed of weather conditions. Local radio and TV stations provide updates, plus there are numerous weather-related websites and apps for smart phones. Sign up for LLCC Connect (https://forms.llcc.edu/connect) to receive information directly to your cell and/or home phone about LLCC weather closings and other emergency situations.
• Dress for the weather. A good pair of boots provides traction and helps keep your feet warm. A pair of gloves can keep you from having to put your hands in your pockets to keep them warm because you will want your arms free to catch your balance if you do slip.
• Watch your step outside. Be aware of slick conditions and take slower and shorter steps so that you can react quickly to any changes in traction.
• Watch your step inside. Snow and ice that get stuck in the deep treads of winter boots begin melting once inside and can create a wet, slick surface.

Condolences to Julie Clevenger

We wish to extend our sympathy to Julie Clevenger, director, Center for Academic Success, on the recent passing of her mother, Jean Barnstable. View the obituary here. Julie expresses her sincere thanks to her LLCC family:

I would like to send a sincere thank you to my teammates in the Center for Academic Success, the Writing Center, Sharon Evans, Rebecca Klatt and Carrie Jacobs who donated toward the beautiful flowers and garden stone in memory of my mother, Jean Barnstable, who passed away on Nov. 18. Thank you, also, for the many cards, emails and memorials posted online. It’s a great comfort to know that I have such a warm and caring family here at LLCC!
