ISAC OFFERING SERIES 2: FINANCIAL AID CERTIFICATION PROGRAM AT LLCC FEB. 4

LLCC is hosting the Series 2, 2015-16 Financial Aid Certification Program workshop Feb. 4 in Montgomery Hall, rooms 11/43-44. Online registration is available at isac.org/financialaidcertification.

To assist individuals in helping students with the financial aid process and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), ISAC offers free professional development opportunities for counselors, mentors and community partners through an annual certification series of training modules. Workshops give professionals a detailed understanding of the financial aid process and its programs through the use of case study scenarios and real-life examples. Continue reading

Dr. John Vinzant, professor of political science, was interviewed on the Iowa caucuses yesterday morning on WTAX’s Morning Newswatch. John is not only an expert on the subject, but is also from Iowa and has participated in the caucuses. Hear the interview.

Cassie Aldridge, LLCC adult education student, was interviewed for this story on the GED lowering its passing score. It was previously noted that Lyn Buerkett, director of adult education and literacy, was also interviewed for the story.

Laurie Clemons, academic advisor and co-chair of the African-American History Month committee, was interviewed by WICS regarding the month’s events for this story.

AAHM Kickoff Celebration today

LLCC will again celebrate African-American History Month during February with various events. The theme for this year’s observance is “Embracing Our Past, Reinforcing the Present and Providing Hope for the Future.”

Join us today for the African-American History Month Kickoff, noon to 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. The event features LLCC alum Kenneth Humble with the Kenny Humble Trio.

LLCC Foundation Board of Directors elects officers; welcomes four new members

The LLCC Foundation Board of Directors elected new officers, welcomed four new members, and recognized the retiring board chair and members at a recent meeting.

Jason Barth of Springfield was installed as board chair for 2016. Ken Elmore of Waggoner was elected vice chair and Tim Schroeder of Springfield was elected treasurer.
