LLCC student Keith Treadwell, president of the Black Student Union, was interviewed by WICS/FOX 55 TV regarding the BSU’s voter registration drive Feb. 8. Laurie Clemmons, academic advisor, was filmed registering students to vote.

ADN and LPN accreditation: invitation to share comments

Lincoln Land Community College announces that it will host a site review for continuing accreditation of its associate degree nursing program and initial accreditation of its licensed practical nursing program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

You are invited to meet the site visit team and share your comments about the programs in person at a meeting scheduled on March 15, 2016 from 4-5 p.m. in the Trutter Center on the LLCC campus, 5250 Shepherd Road, Springfield.

Please encourage students to attend FAFSA event Feb. 18

LLCC Financial Aid sponsors FAFSA Friday events to help students fill out the FAFSA, which they have to do every year if they are interested in obtaining financial aid. The next will be an evening event, held Thursday, Feb. 18 from 5-7 p.m. in the Library computer lab. Independent students (above 24 years old) should bring completed 2015 taxes or estimates of 2015 income; an FSA user ID and password obtained from fafsa.ed.gov; asset information including balance of checking and savings accounts; and social security number. Dependent students should bring all of the above, plus all of their parents’ information. A financial aid representative will be available for personal assistance.

Voter Registration today sponsored by Black Student Union

In honor of African-American History Month, the LLCC Black Student Union is hosting a Voter Registration day today, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons.

The theme for this year’s observance is “Embracing Our Past, Reinforcing the Present and Providing Hope for the Future.” Events are co-sponsored by the LLCC African-American History Month Committee and Student Life Office.

National Weather Service Free Storm Spotter Course Set for Feb. 29 at LLCC

The National Weather Service will offer a free two-hour “Severe Weather Storm Spotting” class at LLCC Monday, Feb. 29 starting at 6:30 p.m. Open to the general public, in addition to learning about the formation and tracking of tornadoes, the session will give attendees an opportunity to become official NWS storm spotters. The training program–the only one in Sangamon County in 2016–will be held in the Student Union on the lower level of Menard Hall. Continue reading

8th annual Lincoln Lecture

Join us for the 8th annual Lincoln Lecture in commemoration of Lincoln’s birthday, Friday, Feb. 12, at 9 a.m. in the Trutter Center.

“Abraham Lincoln and the Todd Women of Aristocracy Hill” will be presented by Erika Holst, author of “Wicked Springfield: Crime, Corruption and Scandal during the Lincoln Era” and “Edwards Place: A Springfield Treasure.”

Ms. Holst, a frequent contributor to the Illinois Times, spent four years with The Papers of Abraham Lincoln project before joining the Springfield Art Association as curator of collections for historic Edwards Place in Springfield. She will discuss her research on how Mary Todd Lincoln and her sisters influenced a rough looking country lawyer who became President of the United States.

The lecture is free and refreshments will be served.
