Today: PAC Meet and Greet

Join us today 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the R.H. Stephens Room to learn about the PAC and bring your questions and suggestions. All who attend will receive an entry into a door PRIZE drawing and if you bring us your suggestions, you will receive a second entry. If you are unable to attend, suggestions may be emailed to pac@llcc.edu. Anonymous suggestions may be sent via inter-office mail to the PAC chair, Melissa Franzen, or placed in the suggestion box located just outside of the mail room in the lower level of Menard Hall. Faculty and Administrators: Order Regalia for Commencement by Friday!

A reminder that changes to regalia orders for 2016 Commencement are due by Friday, Feb. 19 Have you completed a higher degree in the past year? Did your gown or tam not fit right last year? Please submit any changes you have regarding your Faculty/Administrator regalia for this year’s commencement ceremony to Campus Services by calling or emailing Kim Lesko, 6-2456 or Kimberly.Lesko@llcc.edu, so we can update your order. LLCC’s Commencement Ceremony is being held Friday, May 13.

Campus Visit Day today!

Prospective students and their families are visiting campus today. More than 300 people are expected to attend the morning and evening sessions. Information sessions are being held in the Student Union of Menard Hall, with exhibits in the A. Lincoln Commons. Tours also will be available.

AAHM Celebration features performance today

Joins us as we continue our African-American History Month celebration for a performance by 4-H and the Union Baptist Church Youth Mime Unspoken Ministry today, noon to 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons.

The theme for this year’s observance is “Embracing Our Past, Reinforcing the Present and Providing Hope for the Future.” Events are co-sponsored by the LLCC African-American History Month Committee and Student Life Office.

International Writing Centers Week

International Writing Centers Week is Feb. 14-20. Join the LLCC Writing Center in celebrating by adding to the collaborative story on their Facebook page or contributing to their Wall of Hearts in the Writing Center. The presentation will focus on three areas related to veteran students such as, who are our student veterans and what is PTSD and how it can affect learning. This session will also address information regarding student veteran’s benefits and federal policies concerning their rights as a student.

Today: 8th annual Lincoln Lecture on Mary Todd & sisters and birthday activities!

Join us today for the 8th annual Lincoln Lecture in commemoration of Lincoln’s birthday at 9 a.m. in the Trutter Center. “Abraham Lincoln and the Todd Women of Aristocracy Hill” will be presented by Erika Holst, author of “Wicked Springfield: Crime, Corruption and Scandal during the Lincoln Era” and “Edwards Place: A Springfield Treasure.”

Erika HolstMs. Holst, a frequent contributor to the Illinois Times, spent four years with The Papers of Abraham Lincoln project before joining the Springfield Art Association as curator of collections for historic Edwards Place in Springfield. She will discuss her research on how Mary Todd Lincoln and her sisters influenced a rough looking country lawyer who became President of the United States.

The lecture is free and refreshments will be served.

Student Life and LLCC Outreach Centers will sponsor various Lincoln-themed educational displays and contests.  In A. Lincoln Commons, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Epicurean Club will have cookies and Student Life is hosting trivia and Lincoln selfie contests. LLCC-Jacksonville will donate Lincoln birthday bags to the local Food Center, and LLCC-Beardstown is planning an upcoming trip for students to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. On Monday, Feb. 15, LLCC-Taylorville and Litchfield will show the documentary “Lincoln” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

SGA Information Session Feb. 24

Student Government Association will be hosting an Information Session for all students who are interested in running for a position within SGA for the 16-17 academic year on Feb. 24 at 12:30 p.m. in Menard Hall, room 1177. LLCC Big Band to perform free concert Feb. 21 in Divernon

The LLCC Big Band will present a free concert on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 265 S. 2nd Street in Divernon.

The concert will feature songs of love from the 40s, 50s and 60s, and will showcase the talents of LLCC students Alex Lang, Kevin Carman, Rhavan Whittington, Bobby Herpal, and Sophie Nuding.
