Ribbon cutting Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at Bird Banding Station

chestnut-sided warblerYou are invited to a ribbon cutting at the LLCC Bird Banding Station Tuesday, March 22, at 10:30 a.m. (weather permitting). A new building constructed by LLCC workforce construction trades students will allow biology students to conduct bird banding research and data collection inside, as well as provide storage space for the athletics department. The brief ceremony will include comments from Dr. Charlotte Warren, president; Tony Rothering, professor of biology; Vern Kleen of the Lincoln Land Association of Bird Banders; and a student involved in bird banding. If you plan to attend, we suggest boots or old shoes, as the ground may be soft.

LLCC hosts successful ACEN accreditation visit

ACEN cakeLLCC hosted a site review for continuing accreditation of the associate degree nursing program and initial accreditation of the licensed practical nursing program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) this week. Valerie Wright, associate dean of nursing, reports:

The ACEN site visitors found both the ADN and LPN programs in FULL compliance with all of the standards and criteria! There were a few areas for development, but those were to be expected. Their recommendation to ACEN will be full reaccreditation for the ADN program for eight years and full initial accreditation for the LPN program for five years (which is standard for an initial accreditation). The next step will be a review by the Evaluation Review Panel which will meet in June and then the final step is approval (hopefully) by the ACEN Board of Commissioners in July.

I had the privilege of transporting the visitors throughout the visit and they could not say enough great things about our program, students, faculty and staff. Words simply cannot describe my sincere gratitude for all that everyone has done. It would be a very long email to list everyone who was involved in this process, but please know, your hard work and efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Together, we had a successful visit and what an honor and privilege it has been to be a small part of it.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

With gratitude,
Valerie Wright MSN, RN, CNE

Office Supply Swap April 4 & 5

Fellow faculty and staff! Mark your calendars! The Finance Department is hosting an Office Supply Swap on April 4 and 5, 2016 in the R. H. Stephens Room. The way this will work is for all areas to collect supplies they no longer have a need for and bring them to the R. H. Stephens room on Monday, April 4 between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The 4th will strictly be drop off day. Tuesday, April 5, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., everyone is invited to come in and “shop” for items your office can use. You do NOT have to contribute items to shop for items.” This program is designed to eliminate waste and extend the usefulness of items we already have on campus as well as create a cost savings by not having to order certain supplies that may already be in existence but are not being used.
