Blackboard unavailable Jan. 4, 8 a.m.-noon

Blackboard will be unavailable on January 4, 2016 between 8:00 a.m. and noon. During this  time we will be conducting system maintenance in preparation for the Spring 2016 semester. We will send an email on the fourth when the system is up and ready for use.

Congratulations to Scott Stallman!

Scott Stallman participated in a graduation and hooding ceremony on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Illinois State University’s Redbird Arena.  He received his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration & Foundations.  His dissertation title was “Implicit Bias in Student Conduct Systems.”  Congratulations to Scott on this achievement!

Fall 2015 Bird Banding Season Report

We had another successful banding season at the LLCC Bird Banding Station this fall! The highlights for our 7th banding season are below:

  • We banded over 69 mornings using anywhere from 15 to 30 mist nets
  • 2047 birds of 80 species were banded
  • 57 birds banded in previous seasons were recaptured
  • The average capture rate was 29.7 birds/day
  • We banded our 10,000th bird on 10/6/15 and it was a White-crowned Sparrow
  • The station total is now at 113 species banded with 2 new species being added this fall: Blue-headed Vireo and Cape May Warbler
  • Our banding facility is complete and we have been actively using it … especially on cold mornings

Thanks to all who visited the banding station and/or supported our efforts in any way!! We plan to begin our spring banding season the week of March 21, 2016. We welcome visitors of all ages!!

Updates from recent Team meetings

The Assessment Team held a meeting Nov. 16, at which they approved a new format of the “Cultural and Global Awareness” general education rubric, and heard updates regarding the steering workgroup, AQIP project and assessment software. View the full minutes.

During its Nov. 19 meeting, the Environmental Health and Safety Team approved to conduct a new perception survey and to update its charter regarding classified member terms. Also, discussion took place regarding needs for an Environmental Health and Safety Officer, and signage for safe/assembly areas. View the full minutes.

TODAY: “Spread the Cheer” Holiday Party

Attend the “Spread the Cheer” Holiday Party TODAY from 2-4 p.m. in the Student Union, Menard Hall. Enjoy food, holiday music and social time with your colleagues.

In conjunction with the Layout 1annual holiday party, a coat drive is being held. Donate a new or gently used coat (or scarf, hat or mittens)  and your name will be entered in a drawing for door prizes! You will receive one ticket per item you donate and prizes will be drawn at the party. Donations will be sent to Contact Ministries and Springfield School District 186.

Thank you from the Writing Center

The Writing Center extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to our school supply drive for Harvard Park Elementary students and made monetary donations for students in need at LLCC. Because of your generosity, we were able to deliver over four boxes of school and office supplies to Harvard Park and give to Career Development Services over $120 in gas cards and bus passes for our LLCC students in need.

Finance Department Ugly Christmas Sweater Coloring Contest

Coloring for adults has become very popular of late and is considered to be a great way to relieve stress. So, the Ugly Christmas sweaterFinance Department decided that instead of wearing ugly Christmas sweaters this year, we would color them. The contest was held Wednesday, Dec. 16 with Thom Whalen, art professor, serving as the guest judge. The winners were: Most Creative Ugly Sweater: Dorothy Marshall; 1st Runner-up Ugly Sweater: Cheryl Sneed; Best Ugly Sweater: Elyse Calhoun.
