LLCC Ag hosts Illinois Postsecondary Ag Student Organization competition

The LLCC Ag department hosted 135 community college and university agriculture students from across Illinois on Friday, Feb. 19 for the Illinois Post-secondary Agriculture Student (PAS) Annual Conference. Students competed in a variety of events, such as career planning, equine specialist, or college bowl. New officers were also elected for the coming 2016-2017 school year.

15 LLCC students competed, with the Soil Specialist Team (pictured) taking first place. The winning team and advisor, Bill Harmon, will now move on to compete at the National PAS Conference in Kansas City, Mo. in March.

Deadline to apply for Foundation Scholarships

The deadline to submit scholarship applications for the 2016-2017 academic year is tomorrow, March 1. Please remind students considering or planning to attend LLCC beginning in fall 2016 to apply!

LLCC Foundation scholarships are available for first-time and continuing students who will be enrolled full- or part-time at LLCC. Many of the scholarships are designed for students in any major, with the average award being approximately $1,000 per academic year. Students submitting a complete application are considered for all available scholarships for which they are eligible.

Only one application form is needed to apply for all scholarships. More information, in addition to the online application, can be found at www.llccfoundation.org/scholarships.

Bridges to Employment event at LLCC March 1 for veterans

Student Veterans of America–Illinois and Illinois Joining Forces are hosting Bridges to Employment at LLCC’s Trutter Center on March 1, noon-3 p.m. Veterans may register for the free event at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bridges-to-employment-2016-springfield-tickets-21020764673

The event includes a panel of student veterans and hiring professionals who will talk about the transition from military to civilian life, and from education to employment. Veterans can then network with community business partners.

Bridges to Employment events assemble executives and senior managers from the public and private sectors to engage in a panel discussions, educating veterans on the strengths they bring to future careers. The Bridges to Employment seminars are designed to arm veterans with pertinent networking skills and provide an opportunity to effectively market their skills.

Craig McFarland, financial aid advisor and advisor to the LLCC Veterans Club, is facilitating the event on campus.

Bill Bade, dean of math and sciences, was interviewed for this story in the State Journal-Register on the 10th annual Rube Goldberg competition held at LLCC Feb. 27.

Dr. Judy Jozaitis, vice president, workforce development and community education; and Dave Green, dean of business and technologies, were interviewed for an upcoming State Journal-Register story on workforce and career programs and the availability of paid internships and tuition reimbursement from employers.

Homecoming King and Queen announced

King and QueenCongratulations to the new LLCC Homecoming Queen Emmi Fisher and King Zeke Rowe! They were crowned at the men’s basketball game last night before a big crowd. Other members of the Homecoming Court were Morgan Mansur, Emily Millburg, Brian Fisher and Brandon Lewis.

Weight Watchers will be on campus Tuesday March 1!

Weight Watchers is excited to bring back the ‘At Work Series’ to Lincoln Land.  A short, informational meeting will be held Tuesday, March 1, beginning at 12:15 p.m. in Menard Hall, room 1165. This meeting is expected to last approximately 30 minutes. During this time you will learn about the benefits, tools, weekly meetings and weigh ins, as well as cost of the program. Even if you are not ready to commit, please join us and bring a friend.

Minutes Posted from recent SGC and Team meetings

The Shared Governance Council has posted minutes from its Jan. 29 meeting. At the meeting current and new members introduced themselves and reviewed the SGC purpose and resources for conducting business. A Vice Chair was elected, and the council reviewed matters regarding Teams and further discussed leadership funding. See the full minutes HERE.
