Please encourage students to enter this year’s Paul Simon Essay Contest. An essay of 500 words or less on the topic “How my community college changed my life” gets students entered to win cash and other cool prizes, courtesy of the LLCC Foundation and Bookstore. The local winner will be entered in the statewide competition for the chance to win a $500 scholarship. Students can schedule appointments in the LLCC Writing Center to get help with their essays. The LLCC Writing Center and Student Life are now accepting submissions for the Paul Simon Essay Contest. Students must submit an essay of 500 words or less on the topic of “How My Community College Changed My Life.” Local winners will receive prizes from the LLCC Foundation and the bookstore, and the first place winner will be forwarded to the statewide competition, which is sponsored by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association. The Writing Center and Student Life are sponsoring the Gandhi/King Peace Scholarship Essay Contest. The top LLCC winner will win a gift card to the LLCC bookstore and be forwarded to the statewide competition. For more information: Ghandi.King_2017Flyer

Paul Simon Essay Contest winners announced
Please join the Writing Center and Student Life in congratulating this year’s local winners of the Paul Simon Essay Contest. 1st place goes to Olatayo Ajenifuja whose essay has been forwarded on to the statewide competition for his chance at a $500 scholarship. Anita Glydewell was awarded 2nd place, and Kyle Kieffer earned our 3rd place prize. We would also like to the thank the LLCC Foundation and the bookstore for their support in donating prizes for our local winners.

The Writing Center extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to our school supply drive for Harvard Park Elementary students and made monetary donations for students in need at LLCC. Because of your generosity, we were able to deliver over four boxes of school and office supplies to Harvard Park and give to Career Development Services over $120 in gas cards and bus passes for our LLCC students in need.
