Central Park Plaza, will provide food from local restaurants and cultural exhibits from noon-3 p.m. LLCC-Litchfield, 1 Lincoln Land Dr., will feature food from local restaurants from 12:30-3 p.m. LLCC-Taylorville, 800 S. Spresser, will showcase snacks from around the world and grab-and-go activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

19th annual Multicultural Fest Wednesday

Flags from different countriesDon’t miss the 19th Annual Multicultural Festival happening on Wednesday, Oct. 4! The main campus event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside of A. Lincoln Commons, and food trucks will be on campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Volunteers are needed throughout the event to assist with setup/teardown, distributing tickets for food, handing out t-shirts and assisting  participants (food, exhibitors, performers) as needed.

BSU hosting bake sale today, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The LLCC Black Student Union is excited to announce the establishment of a new scholarship through the LLCC Foundation! Each year one student will be awarded $250 to help with tuition, fees and books. To raise money for the scholarship, BSU members will host monthly bake sales in A. Lincoln Commons. Join them for the first one on Friday, Sept.29, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The other bake sale dates this semester are Oct. 30 and Nov. 20.

LLCC to celebrate 19th annual Multicultural Fest Oct. 4

Flags from different countriesLLCC invites the public to its 19th annual Multicultural Fest Wednesday, Oct. 4. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside A. Lincoln Commons and the Millennium Center on the Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Rd. LLCC Outreach Centers in Jacksonville, Litchfield and Taylorville will also host celebrations. The events are free and open to the public.

The annual Multicultural Fest showcases various cultures through food, entertainment and exhibits.

On the Springfield campus, local food trucks are offering free samples at the event. Restaurants serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. include B&W Good Eats and Sweets, Leo’s Pizza and Gyros Stop.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Yinka, Marcus Prudencio (Brazilian music) and student performers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

College and community partners with exhibits include LLCC Logger Activities Board, LLCC Adult Education, Springfield Baha’i Faith, Springfield Lincoln Library, Springfield Branch of the NAACP, Islamic Society of Greater Springfield, TalentSol and Souvenirs from Peru. There will also be exhibits on the religion of spiritualism and Myanmar culture.

National Hispanic Heritage Month. Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power and Progress in America!

National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from Sept. 15-Oct.15.

Tuesday, Sept. 26, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons

La Loteria Mexicana (Mexican Bingo) — Loteria is the Spanish word for lottery. It is a bingo-style game of chance with colorful cards depicting Mexican history and culture.  Join us for fun, prizes, Abuelita hot cocoa and an opportunity to learn Spanish words and yell “¡Ganador!” in the game of La Loteria!

The National Hispanic Heritage Month Committee is pleased to add to the already fantastic events planned. At the La Loteria today, Sept. 26, Esteban Cruz, chief information officer, will demonstrate how to make palomitas con chile. Samples will be available.

Thursday, Oct. 5

LLCC’s Student Government Association, SGA, is sponsoring a Jeans Day on Thursday, Oct. 5 to raise awareness and funds for SIAN: Springfield Immigrant Advocacy Network. Faculty and staff can wear jeans with a minimum donation of $5 to be paid in LLCC Student Life. A sticker will be given to those who donate.
