David Museve is the February Student Worker of the Month for CAS

Congratulations to David Museve, named February student worker of the month for the Center for Academic Success. David has worked as a peer tutor since January 2022. He provides essential tutoring to LLCC students in a wide variety of math courses, chemistry, and physics through the Denis P. Beveridge Math Center. This semester, David volunteered to work evenings to ensure the Math Center would be open to serve students who need assistance later in the day. His enthusiasm and dedication to helping fellow students is evident in his willingness to go above and beyond expectations to ensure LLCC students get the support they need to reach their goals.

Encourage students to level up their learning with peer tutoring

Our peer tutors work with students who want extra support for a wide variety of LLCC courses. Students work with peer tutors to review course content, get help with homework, prepare for quizzes and tests or just to have an accountability partner. Whatever a student’s goals, working with a peer tutor is a great way to practice academic habits that lead to success.

Faculty, staff and students can access peer tutor availability via the Student Guide to Peer Tutors. The link can also be shared with students through their Canvas course shells, or with the embed code below.

Math Center spring 2024 hours

The LLCC Math Center is open to serve students this spring. Hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Math Center, located in the lower level of Sangamon Hall below the library, provides in-person support to current students on a walk-in basis for math-related content in any LLCC course. The center is staffed by math faculty and peer tutors who circulate from student to student as they work on assignments, review textbooks and notes and study for exams to answer questions, provide explanations and help students work through example problems.

Faculty can share information about Math Center hours and services with students in their Canvas course shells using https://sway.cloud.microsoft/s/no48ajLYjvDsCyic/embed or the embed code below.

Julie Clevenger, executive director, LLCC Center for Academic Success, and Tiffany Elliott, academic support program coordinator, presented a session titled, “At the Point of Need: Implementing Collaborative Embedded Support to Increase Student Success” at the annual International College Learning Center Association conference in Portland, Oregon, on Sept.26. The session included learning center directors and staff from around the world and demonstrated how the LLCC Center for Academic Success expanded an embedded tutoring program into a more comprehensive embedded support initiative that utilizes both peer tutors and professional staff to address the college’s goal of increasing student success rates, especially in their first year.

It’s Tutor Appreciation Week!

Oct. 1-7 is National Tutor Appreciation Week. Please take time this week to thank the amazing team of peer tutors that support student success on our campus. In addition to being students themselves, they all work hard to support fellow LLCC students in a wide variety of courses.
