Jeff Gardner, program director, diesel technologies, talked about the start of the program in the fall and career opportunities in the field during an interview Feb. 1 on Sports Radio 1450.
Mike Kienzler, member of the LLCC Academy of Lifelong Learning board of directors and of the ALL Science Committee, wrote the essay “ALL Science Series: Intimacy and Aging” for the latest edition of Senior News.
The Loggers Activity Board (LAB) students have placed boxes around campus for LLCC Food Pantry donations to help promote the pantry and encourage students to visit.

LLCC is celebrating African-American History Month during February with various events. Black resistance is the theme for this year’s observance and draws from a Frederick Douglass quote, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.”
Events are free and open to the public and will be held at LLCC’s Springfield campus. The LLCC African-American History Month Committee and LLCC Student Life are event co-sponsors.
Wednesday, Feb. 1 – African-American History Month kickoff event: “Paint and Sip.” Participants can enjoy the rich flavors of dark and light hot chocolates while channeling creativity on canvas, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons. Registration requested.
Monday, Feb. 6 – “Celebrating Our Existence From the Past to the Present” will provide a showcase of culture and its impact through fashion, design and the evolving of African-American history from the 1900s to the present, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons.
Wednesday, Feb. 8 – “What Is Black Resistance?” This presentation by Britainy Montague celebrates successes, challenges, triumphs and progress, noon to 2 p.m., Trutter Center. Registration requested.
Monday, Feb. 13 – Black history escape room. Participants can uncover hidden clues while expanding their knowledge of Black history, 9 and 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m., LLCC Library, Room 1126. Registration requested.
Wednesday, Feb. 15 – Panel discussion/open forum examining microaggressions in schools and the historical legacy of black families, 9-11 a.m., A. Lincoln Commons.
Wednesday, Feb. 22 – African-American Food and Vendor Day will feature free samples of African-American food, displays exhibiting the wares of African-American entrepreneurs and music by DJ Yinka, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., A. Lincoln Commons.
Throughout February look for the All Aboard: Take a Trip Down the Path of Resistance Display as it makes appearances around the LLCC campus and outlying locations.
Join the Data Governance Council (DGC) for the launch of Data Byte, a series of conversations involving data and governance at LLCC. This month’s presentation is titled “Where Do LLCC Students Go? Understanding Student Flow.” The LLCC Institutional Research and Effectiveness staff will share visualizations from the most recent fall-to-fall analysis and will introduce the college community to our Data Cookbook business glossary. Join us in the Trutter Center tomorrow, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. for this conversation. Snacks will be available.

LLCC Early Childhood Education will be hosting a viewing of the documentary “Tomorrow’s Hope, the Promise of Early Childhood Education” tomorrow, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. in the Trutter Center.
The public is invited to view the film at no charge. Doors open at 6 p.m. with refreshments provided. The event is co-sponsored by the Early Childhood Access Consortium for Equity.
The film reunites with three present-day high school seniors who started in the first Educare preschool on the south side of Chicago and explores the continuing effects of early childhood education as they navigate their way through difficult circumstances.
Congratulations to Jamie Williams who is the LLCC Center for Academic Success’ February student worker of the month. Jamie is enrolled in LLCC’s culinary and hospitality program and has worked as a peer tutor for this program since August 2022. Jamie provides traditional peer tutoring services and also serves as an embedded tutor in HSP 100. Her enthusiasm for and dedication to helping her fellow students is evident in her willingness to go above and beyond expectations to ensure LLCC students get the support they need to reach their goals.
