  1. If a colleague has done something special and deserves a note of thanks, stop by the PRM office (Menard Hall) for an LLCC thank you card.
  2. If you’d like to recognize a larger group or department, submit the information for a LincIn post. Include a photo, if you are able.
  3. If someone has gone above and beyond their job responsibilities, you can nominate them at any time to be included in the next KUDOS (Key or Unique Demonstrations of Outstanding Service) award announcement.

Fire Sprinkler Testing Today at LLCC Outreach Centers

LLCC Facilities Services is coordinating testing of the fire sprinkler systems in all LLCC buildings this week. While we strive to keep disruptions to a minimum, it is necessary to occasionally activate the fire alarm horns and strobes during testing. Your patience is appreciated as we perform these vital inspections.

  • Main campus buildings are scheduled for Wednesday, July 10.
  • Outreach Centers are scheduled for Thursday, July 11.

Beginning Monday, Signage Coming Down

Starting Monday, July 15, all signage in Sangamon, Menard and A. Lincoln Commons will be removed. This includes room numbers, directional signage, building names, etc. Contractors will be working overhead in corridors and public spaces, so please take caution around any ladders and lifts. If you see someone that looks lost during this time, please help them out as the room number/name they are looking for might not be readily available! The current schedule has all new signage installed by Aug. 5. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Tim Ervin at 217-786-9605.

Sunsetting SoftChalk, save content before Aug. 15

As a reminder, LLCC will not be renewing the college’s SoftChalk license after the current contract expires. The deadline to export and save any content currently stored in your SoftChalk Cloud accounts is Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024. Content that is not exported by the end of the license expiration will be lost.

Keep in mind:

  • The deadline of Aug. 15 is for exporting and saving Softchalk Cloud content.
  • The export files created are html/index files and can be loaded directly into Canvas and will function the same as they do in Softchalk Cloud. The exception to this is SoftChalk lessons that are connected to the Canvas Gradebook. These connections will be lost when the html/index files are uploaded directly into Canvas.
  • AIeL has developed both written directions and video tutorials on how to download SoftChalk lessons from the cloud and upload them in Canvas.

H5P

LLCC has now licensed new content authoring software called H5P, which offers more design flexibility and a richer feature set than SoftChalk. H5P can be used to create a wider variety of interactive content types, including quizzes, games, and simulations. H5P content is designed to be accessible to all users, which is especially important for students with disabilities. H5P is also mobile-friendly, so students can access H5P on almost any type of device.  H5P is also open source and has a large and active community of users who contribute to its development and who share different kinds of content with one another.

Please note:

  • Transitioning content from SoftChalk to H5P is not required. As described above, exported SoftChalk Cloud files (html/index files) can be loaded into Canvas courses and will look and function the same as they do when stored in SoftChalk Cloud with the exception for those lessons tied directly to the gradebook.
  • AIeL began training and support for H5P during the fall 23 semester with the intent to provide a full academic year for those who wish to transition from SoftChalk to H5P.
  • Workshops on H5P are still being offered through the spring 24 semester and can be found on the AIeL Workshop Schedule. Questions about the use of H5P can also be answered at AIeL open labs or by appointment with a member of the AIeL Team.

There’s Still Time to Register for Summer Blood Drive!

Donating blood is a great way to give back to our community! By donating with ImpactLife, you are helping to save local lives. All types are needed and O+, O-, and B- are currently in critically low supply.Impact Life logo

Donating will be convenient during the blood drive on Wednesday, July 17 in A. Lincoln Commons. Please go online to schedule an appointment between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

All donors will receive a voucher for an electronic gift card, reward points to be redeemed in the ImpactLife Loyalty Store for a long-sleeved sun shirt, or a donation to Make-a-Wish Illinois. If you have questions about the process, visit www.bloodcenter.org or email Kristin Booher.

July 11 – Final FY24 Accounts Payable Submission

As a friendly reminder, the last day to submit any FY24 expenses for payment is Thursday, July 11, by 5 p.m.
Documents received after this deadline will need to be paid out of FY25 funds.

Requisition Pointers from LLCC Purchasing

The FY25 budget has been uploaded into Colleague. You may start entering purchase requisitions for FY25 at this time. LLCC Purchasing would ask you to be aware of a few pointers as you enter the requisitions:

  • When creating a requisition, please provide a concise description for the product or service you are purchasing. Please do not use product ID numbers. The description should allow any user to understand what is being requested.
  • If a purchase is tied to an approved FY25 planning initiative, please provide the Project ID # in the comments field.
  • If a purchase is tied to an approved FY25 planning initiative, you are still required to follow the proper purchasing guidelines, which may include bids and Board action. Please reach out to Purchasing if you have any questions.
  • For any single item equipment purchased in excess of $500, please specify the location of the asset in the comments field. This will help with tagging the item.
  • Please allow 2-3 business days for requisitions to be approved and for your blankets to be established.

FY25 planning and budgeting recap documents will be posted to the LLCC Finance Department’s SharePoint site later this week. Please take time to familiarize yourself with the documents, which are sorted by requester’s name. Also watch for emails over the next few weeks if you have been allocated funding from tech fee, small projects and/or FFE. We will be reaching out to individuals to begin the purchasing process and will provide purchasing directions and necessary account numbers.
