He will also be presenting at 217 Black Business Month Virtual Roundtables on Aug. 5, 12 and 19, discussing resources available to entrepreneurs at various stages of the development of their businesses. ALL hosting “Zoom & Dine” with Chef Michael Higgins at 1 p.m. today
LLCC’s Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) has quickly adapted to virtual programming, embracing learning, exercise and interaction while also supporting local businesses. ALL is kicking off June programming with a focus on local restaurants.
Dr. Charlotte Warren, LLCC president, will moderate a Zoom discussion at 1 p.m. this afternoon with Chef Michael Higgins, owner of Maldaner’s Restaurant, on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on local restaurants. The Zoom link for the discussion is https://zoom.us/j/91041237257
Chef Higgins has also prepared a special menu for ALL members to enjoy via curbside pickup from June 2-5.
This is one of many Zoom activities ALL is hosting monthly for its members, who are individuals 50 years and up devoted to continuous learning.

Spring St. This panel presentation will uncover big and little lies in everyday interactions. The presentation is the second in the series “Finding Truth in the Age of Alternative Facts” hosted by LLCC’s Academy of Lifelong Learning and the Illinois State Museum.

ALL and Illinois State Museum host “The Ripple” Sept. 22
The LLCC Academy of Lifelong Learning and the Illinois State Museum invite the public to “The Ripple” on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. in the Thorne Deuel Auditorium at the Illinois State Museum, 502 S. Spring St. The presentation is part of the “Standing on Her Shoulders” speaker series being held in recognition of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage.
“The Ripple” will provide first-person interpreters portraying five Illinois women who each played a role in the quest for female suffrage: Mary Disseler as Mary Livermore, Mary Beth Maloney as Jane Addams, Kathryn Harris as Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Carly Shank as Grace Wilbur Trout and Cheri Beever as Betty Friedan.
The second portion of the program will feature contemporary women from differing backgrounds in a conversation about their experiences seeking equality. The women include: Roni Betts, retired financial analyst; Dr. Vicki Davis, LLCC trustee, Air Force retiree and educator; Vena Garrett, former owner of service businesses and educator; Barbara Rowe, initially a flight attendant, later an attorney and judge; and Dr. Qing Yang, anesthesiologist.
“Ethics, Morality and Contemporary Values” today, 6 p.m.
Colin Suchland, Ph.D., professor of sociology, LLCC; Timothy McKenzie, professor of journalism and philosophy, LLCC; and Adriana M. Crocker, LLB, Ph.D., professor of political science, UIS, will serve as panelists at “Ethics, Morality and Contemporary Values” today at 6 p.m. in the Thorne Deuel Auditorium at the Illinois State Museum, 502 S. Spring St. This panel presentation will explore the use of truth and facts in contemporary life. The presentation is a first in the series “Finding Truth in the Age of Alternative Facts” hosted by LLCC’s Academy of Lifelong Learning and the Illinois State Museum.
