Farmer’s Share Lunch tomorrow

The LLCC Agriculture Club is hosting its Seventh Annual Farmer’s Share Lunch tomorrow, April 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Trutter Center. The club is selling tickets for the meal that will include a boneless pork chop sandwich, roasted corn, potato salad, fruit, cookies, and tea or lemonade for $1. The cost represents the portion of a meal’s cost that actually goes back to the farmers who grew the food. The rest of the cost is for processing, marketing, transportation, etc. Only 125 tickets are available, and they may be purchased from any LLCC Ag Club member or by contacting club advisor Bill Harmon at 786-2573 or bill.harmon@llcc.edu.

During the event, guests will also be able to test their agriculture knowledge with trivia questions from LLCC’s state champion College Bowl Team. The event is open to anyone in the campus community as an educational activity for the club.

K-9 demonstration Friday

A criminal justice class will have a guest speaker on Friday, April 27, who will be putting on a K-9 demonstration outside in the grassy area in front of Menard Hall at approximately 12:30 p.m. LLCC community members are welcome to watch the demonstration.

Open interviews for fall 2018 peer tutors May 1 and 2

Now hiring peer tutors for fall 2018 - open interviews, no appointment needed. Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the LLCC Center for Academic Success in the lower level of Sangamon Hall (under the library). Qualifications: 3.0 or higher GPA, enrolled in six hours, successfully completed 12 hours college credit. Free cybersecurity seminar May 1

LLCC is offering a cybersecurity seminar, “Is Your Wireless Safe?”, on Tuesday, May 1 at 6 p.m. in Logan Hall, Room 1140. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will learn how to protect their home wireless systems. Also, they’ll learn about safety when out using public Wi-Fi at their favorite coffee shops. Register for this event.

LLCC Big Band to perform May 7

The LLCC Big Band’s “How Sweet It Is” concert will be held Monday, May 7 from 7-8 p.m. at First Christian Church, 700 S. 6th St., Springfield. The concert is free and open to the public.

The band, under the direction of Jane Hartman, LLCC professor of music, will perform favorites, such as “Baker Street,” “Mustang Sally” and “Jump, Jive, Wail.” Featured LLCC student performers are Don Udey, trumpet; Brian Moore and Adam Pallai, alto saxophone; Rachel Hooker, clarinet; Jeff Milner, percussion; and Abigail Shaver, vocalist.

Responsible Employee training sessions

Are you a Responsible Employee? Do you want more information about how to best respond to disclosures of sexual harassment, sexual violence, dating/domestic violence or stalking? Sexual Assault Awareness Denim Day

In correlation with National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the LLCC Feminist Activist Coalition and SAVE Taskforce are hosting Denim Day today, April 25. For this awareness campaign and fundraiser, faculty and staff wearing denim are asked to donate a minimum $5 to LLCC Student Life. All proceeds will benefit the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault. The fundraiser also connects with Denim Day 2018, an annual campaign that focuses on protesting destructive attitudes and misconceptions about sexual assault. Learn more about the background of this campaign.

2018 Earth Week vendor fair

In celebration of Earth Week, the LLCC Sustainability Committee would like to invite you to participate in the annual Earth Week vendor fair today, Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. This is one of the most popular events on campus for students and employees, and it is a great time to promote sustainability and learn about environmental issues and solutions in a fun, educational atmosphere of celebration.

More and more students, staff and community members are excited about energy, the environment and the overall wellness of Earth. Vendors will provide information, merchandise for purchase, samples and hands-on activities. Bath soaps, vegetable plants, bee bombs, a hive display, environmental fashion alternatives, coffee products, fiber weaving demonstrations and Goat Yoga are just some of the products and activities at the fair this year. Come celebrate Earth!
