Bistro To Go open today

Bistro Verde in the Workforce Careers Center
Bistro Verde, LLCC’s student-run café, is open during the fall 2020 semester as Bistro To Go for curbside pickup and takeout. It is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Nov. 19 (except for Nov. 3). You are invited to enjoy takeout items such as items as smoked chicken tortilla soup, roasted pear salad, grilled and chilled shrimp tacos, short rib melt, chicken pot pie and apple bread pudding. View the  menu. In addition, weekly chef specials will be available. Specials will be posted on the LLCC Culinary Arts and Hospitality Facebook page.

Lunch orders may be placed online at https://orders.cake.net/11205518 or by calling 217-786-2821, and must be paid for by credit or debit card when ordering.

Reserved parking spots for curbside pickup are available on the east side of the Workforce Careers Center on LLCC’s Springfield campus. When parked, call 217-786-2821, provide the name on the order and the vehicle make/model to have the order delivered.

For those joining us from campus that prefer to walk over, still order online and please pick up orders under the covered pavilion (signs will direct you to the pickup spot).

If you are a student attending classes at Workforce Careers Center or are an LLCC employee within the building, and you have already completed the daily health check as well as scanned your forehead temperature within WCC, you may wait for your order in the foyer. Please continue to follow the social distancing guideline of staying six feet apart.

Kevin Lust, director, Illinois Small Business Development Center at LLCC, was interviewed on WTAX yesterday morning about the new Business Interruption Grants.

Mackenzi Matthews, LLCC alum and current UIS student, has recently been selected to serve on the Illinois Board of Higher Education. WSIL-TV reports that she aims to bring a voice to affordability and access to resources in higher education.

Institutional Improvement Day is Friday, Sept. 25

LLCC will hold its annual Institutional Improvement Day on Friday, Sept. 25. Your input is essential to this effort. No classes will be held that day, and employees are expected to participate.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a video, viewable via Stream (a link to the video will be in LincIn and emailed to all employees that morning), followed by virtual Quality Council Team meetings and departmental work. Departments will also meet virtually in the afternoon. The schedule is below, with more specific instructions to be emailed to individuals leading Quality Council Team and departmental meetings.

LateStart classes begin today

Moving Forward! Start later and finish faster with LateStart Classes! 12-week courses begin Sept. 21. 8-week courses begin Oct. 19.Twelve-week LateStart classes start today! Eight-week transfer and career/tech courses will begin Oct. 19.

Recognizing that some four-year college and university students may be staying home because their schools have cancelled in-person classes, and other students may have missed LLCC’s fall registration deadlines due to challenges brought on by the pandemic, LLCC is offering a full array of LateStart classes. All of the courses can be completed by the end of the fall semester in mid-December.

A hotline has been set up at 217-394-5580 (text), 217-786-2227 (phone) and latestart@llcc.edu (email) for students to discuss their options. Students contacting the hotline can communicate with specialists about the enrollment process, payment options and financial aid. A list of available LateStart classes and more information are available at www.llcc.edu/latestart.

Paving contractors starting work today

Starting on today, Sept. 21, paving contractors will be working on replacing the curb and removing the chain link fence on the east side of Parking Lot 15 (southwest of Cass Gym). This work will (at times) occupy a lane of exit traffic in this area. Please use caution and follow all construction traffic signs, cones/barrels and directions during this time. LLCC Academic Innovation & eLearning fall 2020 professional development workshops are being conducted in three different formats: remote/live via Zoom, online and on-demand. Workshops cover both pedagogy and instructional technology tools and will also include special opportunities to learn to use the new Canvas learning management system.

On Monday, Sept. 21, 2-3 p.m. via Zoom Link – AIeL Virtual Open Lab – Ask specific questions, discuss your instructional technology needs or get help working through an instructional idea or problem. Registration not required for AIeL Virtual Open Labs.
