LLCC’s Workforce Institute partners with local Ford dealerships

LLCC’s Workforce Institute has partnered with Green Family Stores and Landmark Ford for the Ford Automotive Career Exploration (ACE) program. ACE aims to raise awareness and increase interest in career opportunities within the automotive industry, particularly as a service technician.

“This partnership is a great step forward in providing the best education and a career pathway for our automotive technology students,” said Nancy Sweet, dean of the LLCC Workforce Institute.

Under the agreement, both Ford dealerships will be active members on the advisory committee for LLCC’s auto tech program, provide class presentations twice a year, participate in annual career events as well as job shadowing, and offer paid internships and part-time jobs for students, leading to full-time careers.

“We see this as a win-win where we are involved in the students’ education as they learn from the experts to provide a clear path to a lucrative career at our dealership,” said Kevin Epley, human resources director at Landmark Autogroup.

Josh Laurent, corporate director of fixed operations, Green Family Stores, said, “We want to encourage more students to enter the field of automotive technology and mentor them along the way so they stay local and fill our available jobs. We know the quality of LLCC auto tech grads and have great careers waiting for them.”

In addition, LLCC auto tech students will have access to valuable knowledge of Ford/Lincoln vehicle systems by completing web-based training with a subset of the same courses taken by Ford dealership technicians. By completing these courses, students are one step closer toward a career in the automotive industry, beginning as an entry-level automotive service technician at a Ford/Lincoln dealership.

New nine-month daytime and 11-month evening certificate programs begin Aug. 23. Interested students can visit www.llcc.edu/automotive-technology, email darla.cochran@llcc.edu or call 217-786-2407.

Sign up to assist at the Welcome Week table

LLCC Public Relations and Marketing would appreciate your assistance during fall Welcome Week! PRM is looking for volunteers to assist at the welcome table in A. Lincoln Commons Aug. 23-26 during the first week of fall classes.

Help students get a great start to the semester by greeting them, answering their questions, providing directions and encouraging them to stop by the Welcome Week events hosted by LLCC Student Life! An FAQ reference sheet will be on the table along with highlighters to help in marking students’ routes to their classes. Because social distancing may not be possible when providing assistance to students, we ask those fully vaccinated to consider volunteering as greeters.

To sign up, add your name to this fall Welcome Week sign-up sheet or contact Amy Flynn at amy.flynn@llcc.edu.

Ordering promotional items with the college’s name or logo

As a reminder, if a college department (with the exception of Athletics, Student Life and Bookstore) has funds and wishes to purchase promotional items that would contain the college logo or name, here are the steps to take. These guidelines are intended to insure consistency, quality and value of promotional items.

  1. Complete a PRM KBOX work order, indicating the items you wish to purchase and the quantity, color and other specifications. You may suggest a vendor, but it is not necessary.
  2. PRM will find a vendor for the items and provide you with price information.
  3. If you approve of the price, PRM will contact the vendor and provide the appropriate artwork and deadlines.
  4. You (or your department assistant) will need to create a requisition on Colleague for the item(s). Once the requisition is approved, the purchasing office will then send the vendor a PO to place the order.
