Ceramics Club pottery sale Dec. 4-5; perfect for holiday gifts!

The LLCC Ceramics Club of LLCC will hold its annual Pottery Sale on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 4 and 5, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons. Handmade ceramic pieces, created by LLCC students in the ceramics classes, as well as by Michelle Coakes, professor of art, will be sold.  Prices range from $3-$100.  A portion of all sales will be used to fund student attendance at a national ceramics conference this spring in Milwaukee. Come and see what the students have made! The Ceramics Club is a recognized Student Life Organization.

Beardstown Students hold successful food drive

LLCC-Beardstown’s SELF (Students Engaging in Lifelong Friendships) group collected over 200 items in their first annual Holiday Canned Food Drive.  Their donations will go the Cass County Food Pantry to help Cass County residents during the holidays.

Karen Sanders, executive director, Foundation and Scott Stallman, executive director, LLCC-Taylorville, Litchfield, Hillsboro, were guests on the WTIM morning program, “Ask the Professional,” Nov. 25, discussing the Grow Beyond endowment campaign, scholarships and spring registration.

Mary Beth Ray, director, Career Development Services, and students Christine Robinson and Karla Martin, were interviewed Nov. 26 for a special tabloid in the State Journal-Register about jobs and retraining. The tab will run in mid-January.

Lynn Whalen, executive director, PRM, was interviewed by the SJR for a Nov. 23 story on LLCC joining the Illinois Energy Consortium, with expected energy savings of more than $90,000 per year.

 

LLCC ag students receive awards at Illinois PAS conference

Lincoln Land Community College Agriculture students participated in competitions at the Illinois Postsecondary Agricultural Student Organization (PAS) fall conference in Peoria recently. The Illinois PAS provides opportunities for individual growth, leadership and career preparation and is one of the 10 career and technical student organizations that has been approved by the U.S. Department of Education as an integral part of career and technical education. LLCC Hybrid Nursing Student Recognition with the American Red Cross

ARC Pinning CeremonyOn Nov. 20, the ADN hybrid nursing students received their American Red Cross Student Nursing pin in recognition of 10+ hours of community service and specialized training.  This is the first time a nursing school in central Illinois has partnered with the Red Cross to complete the Red Cross Disaster Health and Sheltering training. This course introduced the nursing students to how they could help in a disaster response and involved them in a tabletop exercise facilitated by Dr. Pam Bradley, professor of nursing, and the Illinois State Lead Nurse, Elizabeth Dady.   Read more…

Jacksonville Theatre to perform for area schools

LLCC-Jacksonville Theatre hits the road Dec. 5 as instructor Ken Bradbury’s Traveling Theatre troupe begins a four-day marathon of performances in 16 area elementary schools. The play, “Make A Wish,” brings an entertaining message encouraging the thousands in their audience to treat each other with respect and love. The cast will perform on Dec. 5, 6, 12 and 13.
