i.e. improv announces spring performance schedule

“i.e. improv,” the improvisational performance group at LLCC, has begun its performance schedule for the spring semester.  Upcoming performances are Thursday evenings, Feb. 27, March 20, April 3 and May 1 and 8, all beginning at 6  p.m. in Sangamon Hall South room 009.  The public is invited, with viewer discretion advised. Tickets are available at the door for $2.

As a completely off-the-cuff show, this group takes audience suggestions and turns them into long-form improv. This spring the students are performing with a surrealist bent as scenes warp time and space in an imaginative and dream-like romp.

9th annual production of “The Vagina Monologues”

LLCC’s Feminist Activist Coalition will present the 9th annual production of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28 and March 1, at 7 p.m. in the Trutter Center on the Springfield campus.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with a pre-show beginning at 6:15. Tickets are available for $15 each ($10 for current LLCC students with I.D.) at the LLCC ticket office in Menard Hall, or at the door.

The production, including 18 cast members, is directed by Dr. Deborah Brothers, professor of English.  The production is part of the “V-Day College Campaign” to raise awareness of issues related to violence against women and girls around the world.  Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Sojourn Center and Eve Ensler’s V-Day Foundation.

SGC Meeting Minutes posted

The Shared Governance Council recently held a meeting Jan. 21. New member Jason Dockter was elected as the Vice Chair to the council.  The council also discussed more updates to the bylaws, making the portal page more user-friendly, and set a consistent meeting time for the the Spring semester. Please refer potential student leaders to Chris Barry

Dear Colleagues,

Elections for the Student Government are coming up in a few weeks.  As faculty and staff, you interact with students every day, and can serve as the best recruiters for our Student Government Association.  Would you please consider taking a moment to refer students that you believe have leadership potential?  I will send the students you refer a letter indicating  that they have been referred as a potential leader.  I will also include information about the Student Government Association, along with an application to run for office.

Historically, most students only consider running because an instructor, peer or staff person had approached them and encouraged them that they could do it.  Many of our students don’t see themselves as leaders, but when you show them that you believe in them, that can make the difference.  At your earliest convenience could you please refer students that you believe would make good Student Government Representatives?

Leslie Johnson, director, LLCC-Litchfield & Hillsboro and Tisha Miller, operations analyst, LLCC-Taylorville, Litchfield & Hillsboro were interviewed on the WSMI-AM “Wednesday Morning Talkshow” on Wednesday, February 12. They discussed preparing for the upcoming summer and fall semesters (including applying for financial aid and the LLCC Foundation scholarships), new courses being offered at LLCC-Litchfield in the summer and fall and upcoming events at LLCC-Litchfield & Hillsboro.

Laurie Clemons, academic advisor, was interviewed Feb. 7 regarding African-American History Month activities.

Trutter Museum to host 1st Thursday Speakers Series March 6

The LLCC Philip and Mary Kathryn Trutter Museum will present its 1st Thursday Speakers Series Thursday, March 6 at 7 p.m. in the Trutter Center.  The event features local experts discussing various aspects of architecture. Speakers include Charles Joseph Pell, AIA, of Charles Joseph Pell Architects, Inc. in Springfield and Dave Leonatti, AIA, of Melotte, Morse, Leonatti, Parker, Ltd. in Springfield.

Faculty and Administrators: It’s Time to Order Regalia for Commencement!

Faculty and administrators who participated in Commencement previously: please let us know of any changes in your information before we order this year’s regalia.  Faculty and administrators who are new this year, we will need the following information:  height, highest degree earned, field of study, institution where earned, location of that institution.  If you are planning to retire before Commencement or know that you’ll be unable to attend this year’s ceremony, please let us know that so we don’t order a set of regalia for you.  Contact Susan Mendenhall at 6-2424 or susan.mendenhall@llcc.edu if you have questions or need to provide ordering information.  The deadline is February 20.
