“Jazzin’ It Up with Jack and Friends,” a concert for special needs children organized by Jane Hartman and Jason Waddell, music faculty, was a rousing success Saturday morning, April 5. Children enjoyed performances by the LLCC Big Band and Stolen Moments, and played along using noisemakers and shakers. They also touched and played real band instruments at the instrument petting zoo. Jane and Jason were interviewed by the State Journal Register and SO magazine, and Robin Ackman of the Finance Department and family were pictured in this article that ran Sunday, April 6. Jay Kitterman, director, Culinary Institute, was interviewed by the State Journal Register a front page story April 7 on the growing popularity of restaurant food delivery services.
John Kidd, culinary specialist, was the featured chef on FOX-55’s Good Day program from 7 to 9 a.m., preparing several delicious dishes.
2014 Biggest Loser Results are in…
TLC came out on top for the second year in a row! The team is comprised of Liesl Smith, Theresa Kanoza and Cara Swafford. Together TLC lost 40.6 lbs or 8.63% of their total body weight.
In a close second, which came down to the last minute, was Waist Management. This team is comprised of Bill Harmon, Craig Beckmier and Rich Teeter. Together Waist Management lost 50.6 lbs or 8% of their total body weight.
And last but not least, in third place was CNA Duo which is actually a trio comprised of Sandra Chvala, Sharon Hashman and Keri Mounce. Together CNA Duo lost 21.4 lbs or 3.82% of their total body weight.
This contest is marketed as a team contest however we do recognize the overall individual winner. A big congratulations goes to Cara Swafford for being the 2014 Biggest Loser. Individually Cara lost 18.2 lbs or 10.24% of her body weight.
The weekly winners’ names were placed in a hat to be drawn at the end of the contest. Congratulations to Craig McFarland whose name was drawn from the hat.

Our sympathy to Phil Lima
Our sincere condolences to Phil Lima, police sergeant, whose mother, Wilma Lima, passed away early Monday morning. A visitation will be held at Butler Funeral Home (Springfield, IL) Wednesday April 9th, 11:3oa.m.-12:30p.m. followed by a service at Camp Butler Cemetery at 1:00p.m.
VALIC Representative on Campus April 22
In light of recent SURS changes, the Finance Department thought it was a good time to have our VALIC representatives back on campus. This is a great opportunity to review your current allocations or start a new 403(b) or 457 plan. Remember, any deductions to one of these plans are deducted pre-tax. ON FOX-55 this morning between 7-9 a.m.: Karen Sanders, executive director, LLCC Foundation, and honors students Tyler Mathews and Russell Michelich, talk about the “Be a Hero” campaign to promote organ donation. Secretary of State Jesse White will be on campus Tuesday, 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons for a press conference about the statewide, community college campaign. Organ donation registry will be available following the press conference.
Scott Stallman, executive director LLCC-Taylorville/Litchfield/Hillsboro, was featured on the April 2 edition of WTIM’s “Ask The Professional.” He provided information on registering for summer/fall classes including new student orientation and paying for college. He also discussed April happenings at LLCC-Taylorville.
Jazzin’ It Up concert tomorrow, Lego Expo Sunday
Special needs children and their parents/guardians are invited to a free concert tomorrow morning, April 5, in the Trutter Center. “Jazzin’ It Up with Jack and Friends” takes place from 10 a.m. to noon and features performances by LLCC music ensembles, along with an “instrument petting zoo” in which children can view and touch band instruments.
The schedule of events includes a performance by the LLCC Stolen Moments ensemble, directed by Jason Waddell, from 10-10:30 a.m.; instrument petting zoo from 10:30 to 11:15; and a performance by the LLCC Big Band, directed by Jane Hartman, from 11:15-11:45, followed by refreshments.
A number of students from the Hope Institute for Children and Families and their helpers will be in attendance. Anyone with a special needs child may RSVP to attend by emailing robin.ackman@llcc.edu or calling 786.2762.
Sunday, the first annual Central Illinois Junior FIRST® LEGO® League Expo will be held from 12:30-4:30 p.m. in Cass Gymnasium. The public is invited to the free event, to view the work of 24 regional Junior FIRST® LEGO® League teams of children aged 6-9.

LEAGUE Winners Announced
Penny Wars: Congratulations to the 2014 LEAGUE Penny Wars Champions, LLCC-Jacksonville. A total of $423.29 was raised for the LLCC Foundation’s Pay It Forward Fund which helps students who need emergency assistance. The results for each department who participated are attached here.
Raffle Winners: Congratulations also goes to the winner of the Kindle Fire HD and $25 Amazon gift card – Mark Roehrs, Professor of History in the Social Sciences department. The winner of the 50/50 cash drawing is Gary Armour, Laboratory Safety Coordinator, with the Mathematics and Sciences department. He won $145.75.
