EHST Safety Tip of the Month
The June safety tip brought to you by the Environmental Health & Safety Team:
Cardiac arrest is the abrupt loss of heart function which can cause death within minutes. Each year nearly 360,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of a hospital with over 80 percent of those happening at home.
The American Heart Association (AHA) lists the following as signs of cardiac arrest:
– A sudden loss of responsiveness
– No normal breathing

Construction Update
I’d like to bring you up to date on a project that we will start shortly. It is a project to tuck point and repair the masonry on Sangamon Hall, Menard Hall and Cass Gymnasium. It is funded by Capital Renewal Funds and is being monitored by the Capital Development Board. At the moment, we don’t have a defined schedule but we should start within the next 30 days. When the schedule is developed, I will be sharing it with all of you.
This project will be loud, at times, and there will be times when certain entrances may be temporarily blocked. As always, we will try to keep you posted about the schedule, the work and the impact that it may have on all of us. I will know more in the upcoming days, after the bid has been awarded and I’ve had a chance to sit down with the contractor.
As usual, please feel free to contact me at 786-9605.
Thank you.
Hugh Garvey, Asst. VP Construction

Note from Facilities Services regarding moves
Office and classroom moves can be very disruptive to all. In an effort to make office and classroom moves as efficient as possible and to minimize the inconvenience of moving for affected staff and students, Facilities Services is requesting to be involved in the planning of any classroom, office, furniture and equipment move on campus. Even a simple office space trade among staff can potentially result in a considerable amount of planning, work and expense. Please contact the Facilities Services Office, 6-2304, at least two weeks before any planned moves so that we can have sufficient time to plan and can accommodate your needs while maintaining all other campus grounds and facilities.
Welcome Week Volunteers Needed
Volunteers for a few time slots are still needed for Welcome Week. If you are available to staff the table 7:30-8:15am on Monday, 7:30-8:15am or 8:15-9am on Tuesday please email Mary Bonn (mary.bonn@llcc.edu) or stop by the Information Desk in the A. Lincoln Commons to sign up.
Welcome Week volunteers greet and assist students during the first two days of summer semester at a welcome table in A. Lincoln Commons, providing maps and other helpful materials.
Foundation Secures Donations In Support of Our Students
The Lincoln Land Community College Foundation applauds your efforts in helping our students fulfill their educational goals!
Gifts to the annual staff and faculty LEAGUE campaign are still being received. To date, the Foundation has received $55,488 in pledges from 175 staff and faculty members! This money benefits students like Peggy, who after an 18-year hiatus, hesitantly returned to college, but with clear goals in mind including being the first in her family to receive a degree and to open her own catering business someday. Thanks to your generous donations, Peggy was the recipient of the Lincoln Land Foundation First Generation Student Scholarship, which has helped her pay tuition.
