Crisis Counseling available to students

As we head into the holidays and the end of the semester, the Office of Advising, Counseling and Career Services would like to make sure all faculty and staff are aware of our counselor’s line.  If you have a student in crisis and in need of counseling just call 786-9660.  A call to the counselor’s line will be answered immediately.  One of our Student Development Professionals will be made available to meet with the student.  The Student Development Professional can come to where the student is or you can bring the student down to the Advising, Counseling, and Career Services Office.

Our office is open from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and on Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.  If you need crisis assistance during non-business hours please call the LLCC Police Department’s emergency line at 786-2222.   If a crisis occurs at one of our Outreach Centers, staff can call the Counselor’s Line and we can speak with the student by phone and make arrangements to visit the center as soon as possible to meet with the student in person.

Loggers headed to national tourney for 2nd year in a row!

team-smallGo Loggers! The LLCC Loggers volleyball team, coached by Jim Dietz, is seeded third in the NJCAA Division II Volleyball National Championship in Charleston, West Virginia. LLCC opens Nov. 17 at 8 a.m. against #14 seed Metropolitan Community College-Longview (Missouri). The Loggers placed second to Parkland College at the national championship last year.The Loggers (37-8) are making their second straight trip to the 16-team national tournament.

Great War Encampment this weekend; LLCC families invited

Dr. Chris McDonald, professor of political science, and Dr. Mark Roehrs, professor of history, will present Saturday at the Great War Encampment at the Illinois State Military Museum, 1301 N. MacArthur Blvd., Springfield. Throughout the day, there will be educational programs for children, a scavenger hunt around the museum, outside exhibits and a hands-on artifact analysis. LLCC employees and families are invited and Chris will have uniforms to try on and will take photos. Mark will speak at 1 p.m. on “Mobilizing for War, 33rd at Camp Logan” and at 3 p.m., Chris speaks on the “33rd Division in Combat.”

Film series tonight; Veterans Day Ceremony tomorrow

The “Through a Different Lens” film series continues at 6 this evening in the Trutter Center with “To Live” (1994), which follows the life of one family in China, from the heady days of gambling dens in the 1940s to the austere hardship of the Cultural Revolution in the 1960s. And through all of their fierce struggles with fate, all of the political twists and turns they endure, their hope is basically summed up by the heroine, a wife who loses wealth and position and children, and who says, “All I ask is a quiet life together.” The film series is hosted by Ashley Green, Ph.D., assistant professor of English; Paul Van Heuklom, professor of English; and Joseph Hoff, Ph.D., professor of Spanish. There is no charge to attend.
 

LLCC’s 21st annual Veterans Day Ceremony is tomorrow Nov. 11 with a reception at 1 p.m. and ceremony at 1:30 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons.  American Legion Post 759 Color Guard will post the colors and  Gailyn Draper, administrative assistant to the vice president of student services, will sing the national anthem. The program also includes LLCC Trustee Dennis Shackelford serving as master of ceremonies and LLCC student Lance Corporal Bobby Herpel, U.S. Marine Corps, providing remarks and playing taps.The ceremony is sponsored by the LLCC Student Life Office and honors all veterans including LLCC faculty, staff and students who served in the armed forces.

Election watch party

Chris McDonald and John Vinzant, with approximately 45-50 students coming throughout the evening. (Thanks, Chris for these photos.) Several other faculty and staff stopped by and approximately 20  students also met at LLCC-Taylorvile with adjunct instructors Andrea Graff and John Coady.

Last farm stand of the year today

Last farm stand of the year will start today at 11:30 a.m. with Bistro Verde featuring carrots, spinach, radish, kale and bok choy.
