The LLCC Chemistry Club would like to thank everyone who helped make our 4th annual Haunted Lab a success this year. We had over 150 kids registered, and nearly 300 people attended overall this year! Thanks to PRM, Office of Academic Innovation and eLearning, and the Student Life Office for help with publicity, registration, and fantastic posters/buttons/magnets for the event. And special thanks to all of the faculty and staff and their kids for coming to the event and making it so much fun!
LLCC launches Community Survey
LLCC has launched a community survey to gauge public opinion about the college. Employees are encouraged to send the link to organizations you belong to within the LLCC district.
The survey takes about five-10 minutes to complete and responders can remain anonymous. Those who include their name and email or phone will be placed in a drawing for a $50 gift card. Deadline to fill out the survey is Friday, Nov. 18, 2016.
The survey can be accessed at: www.llcc.edu/survey
Note: This is a different survey than the PACE Campus Climate Survey recently conducted for employees.
Reminders from Facilities
Facilities Services would like to ask for patience and cooperation as our crews work to remove the accumulation of leaves around campus. This necessary job is often dictated by traffic flow, time of day and wind direction. There may be times when it will be necessary for us to temporarily block off a lane of a road or several parking spaces or even a sidewalk until we can remove a pile of leaves. With a little cooperation from everyone we will get the job done as safely and as quickly as possible.
We also would like to remind all faculty and staff that even though the weather has been mild lately, cold temperatures are right around the corner. A beautiful fall day may be followed by a night that’s cold enough to produce frost and ice. Please keep this in mind and watch your step in the parking lots and on sidewalks. We strive to address icy areas as soon as possible, but it takes time for salt and ice melt to do their job.

While many online teachers believe that they create and control their teaching presence, drawing on transactional distance theory and relational distance theory, this workshop will demonstrate how complex online presence is to establish. Problematically, this sense of who the teacher is can be a powerful element to help online students succeed within the course. To help students to perceive, more clearly, who the teacher of the course is, this workshop will suggest specific actions a teacher can take to help enhance the presence of all participants in the class. These actions will provide differing opportunities for students to make meaning, for teachers to share who they are with students, and to proactively encourage the formation of relationships between course participants through course design.
