The Student Government Association is hosting Denim Day Thursday, Oct. 29 in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Take a $5 donation to the Student Life Office to wear your jeans. All proceeds will be sent to the Memorial Mammography Cancer Fund.

ITDE workshop Oct. 29 – Brain Sticky!

On Thursday, Oct. 29, join Amy Chernowsky, academic success professional, for Brain Sticky from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in SGMN 0119. Do students often complain that they can’t remember information or that there’s too much information to remember? Learn how you can help students improve their “brain sticky-ness” when it comes to learning your content area. This workshop explores how memories are formed and stored in the brain, strategies for memory improvement and resources to give your students to help them improve their memory.

Today: Sustainability Day activities continue; Child Development Center Family Fun Night Open House

Sustainability Day activities continue today in A. Lincoln Commons. Student clubs and the Green Center will have informational tables, games and snacks from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. From noon-1:15 p.m., the film “Unacceptable Levels” will be shown.

If you are looking for excellent child care, attend the LLCC Child Development Center’s Family Fun Night Open House tonight from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Parents, children and families are welcome to view the facilities and children’s activities, talk to teachers and parents of enrolled children, and enjoy refreshments and a story time.

The LLCC Child Development Center, which was honored with the ExceleRate Illinois Gold Circle of Quality Award last year, is open to any child in the community, from 15 months to kindergarten entry. The Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and adheres to learning curriculum through play. Tuition assistance is available to those who qualify.

Funeral services for Hugh McNiece’s mother

Again, we wish to extend our condolences to Hugh McNiece, math professor, on the loss of his mother, Martha McNiece. Visitation for Martha will be at Trout Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Hartford Ave. Church of Christ on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Burial at Resthaven Memorial Park will follow the service. Sustainability Day activities-Farm Stand at Bistro Verde today; information booths/movie tomorrow

Sustainability Day activities kick off today with a farm stand at Bistro Verde from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. The farm stand will feature fresh produce for sale, grown in the campus high tunnels, including: lettuce (little gem, Yugoslavian red, speckled), mesclun mix, arugula, spinach, French breakfast radish, flat-leaf parsley and curly kale. LLCC Alumni Services accepting nominations for 2016 Honored Alumni Award

Alumni Services is accepting nominations for the 2016 LLCC Honored Alumni Award. The deadline for nominations is Nov. 30.

Anyone may nominate an LLCC alum for the award by completing a nomination form that is available at www.llcc.edu/foundation-alumni/. Nominees must have graduated from or successfully completed coursework at LLCC; achieved outstanding success and distinction in his/her chosen field; demonstrated humanitarian service; have a continued interest in and support of education and community colleges; and have the ability to attend LLCC’s commencement ceremony on May 13, 2016.

Past recipients of the Honored Alumni Award include: 2009 – Bill Ames of Springfield; 2010 – Michelle Tjelmeland of Springfield; 2011 – Bruce Compton of St. Charles, Mo.; 2012 – Gregg Humphrey of Springfield; 2013 – Jim Matheis of Springfield; 2014 – Dr. Karla (Carwile) Ivankovich of Glenview, Ill., and 2015 – Cinda Edwards of Springfield.
