LLCC is participating in the Springfield Area Arts Council’s On My OwnTime (OMOT) program. OMOT provides an opportunity for LLCC employees to display original art that has been created outside the office. There will be two exhibitions: the in-house exhibit (at LLCC) and the city-wide exhibit (Springfield Art Association) where first place award-winning artwork from all participating businesses/agencies/institutions is displayed.
The deadline to participate in the 2016 OMOT program is Fri., Sept. 16. All entry forms and fees will need to be turned in to Misty Hagstrom, Judy Jozaitisor Janet Semanik. Each employee may enter up to three works for a fee of $5 per entry. This individual fee, payable to the Springfield Area Arts Council, assists with costs of the OMOT program. All employees who enter OMOT receive a ribbon for their participation. View the entry form and rules:
LLCC’s in-house exhibit will be held Fri., Oct. 14-28 (with an opening reception to be held on Fri., Oct. 14). The judges, provided by the Springfield Area Arts Council, will select award winners at each workplace. The first place awards from each in-house exhibit will be displayed in the city-wide exhibit at the Springfield Art Association (SAA), 700 North Fourth Street, from December 2-21. The city-wide awards as well as the best of show award will be announced at a reception at the SAA for all On My Own Time participants to be held on December 6, from 6- 8 p.m.
Use your imagination, creativity and originality to create your entries for our in-house exhibit. Entries are divided into twelve different categories: painting, drawing, printmaking/etching, mixed media, fiber/fabric/needlework, pottery/ceramics/porcelain, “straight” photography, photographic or print manipulated images, jewelry, wood, glass/metal/stone, other (basketry, hand-crafted models and miniatures, floral arrangements, paper, etc.). As part of the criteria for award selections, judges look for originality and innovative use of materials, quality presentation and the overall impact of the piece. View a detailed list of the categories and descriptions.
Participation deadline is Fri., Sept. 16. Contact Misty Hagstrom at 786.2466 with questions.
The LLCC Bird Banding Station opened up for the fall banding season last Monday, Aug. 22. This past Friday we had a very good day (73 birds of 20 species) considering how early in the season it is! The most notable capture was a pair of Belted Kingfishers (the first ever caught at our banding station)! Follow the Lincoln Land Community College Bird Banding Station on Facebook to see photos and updates from the station. Most notable is the picture of student Stevie Emmons with the 2 kingfishers.
The banding station will be open Monday-Saturday, sunrise to about 11a.m., thru mid-November. All are welcome to join us!
The Arts and Humanities Department would like to remind you that if you would like to wish Sue Hamilton, adjunct music instructor, well in her retirement, they are collecting cards for a “Card Shower” now through this Friday, Sept. 2.
