Montgomery County Career Day

Although Mother Nature got in the way of all four Montgomery County schools attending, LLCC-Litchfield hosted nearly 150 high school juniors from Litchfield and Nokomis high schools at the Montgomery County Career Day on Friday, Feb. 25.  At the event, students learned about job qualifications, what a typical workday looks like and the job outlook for several  careers in Montgomery County. Students were also provided the option for additional career exploration.

Last night’s “Show us something good” segment on FOX Illinois/WICS featured last fall’s Structural Carpentry Concepts class (BDM 106) at LLCC-Taylorville. Students designed and built doghouses and cat perches, which they donated to Christian County Animal Control. Ed Legg, adjunct instructor and construction students Ursula Jones and Carlin Anderson were interviewed.

LLCC-Jacksonville to host scholarship information event Jan. 25

FAFSA Completion & Scholarship Information EventLLCC-Jacksonville, located at 32 N. Central Park Plaza, will host a free scholarship information and FAFSA completion event Tuesday, Jan. 25, 3-7 p.m. Current LLCC students, high school seniors and their families are invited to attend.

Families who would like assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can schedule a one-hour appointment between 3-7 p.m. to meet with an LLCC financial aid professional.

Two sessions, 4-5 p.m. and 5-6 p.m., will be held on LLCC scholarships during which participants can attend a presentation and receive application assistance.

From 4:30-5:30 p.m., attendees can visit an exhibit area with local community organizations providing information on various scholarships. Participating organizations include the LLCC Foundation, Jacksonville Promise, Jacksonville Rotary Foundation, McDonald’s, Cass County Farm Bureau Foundation, MCS Community Services, Ladies Education Society, Jacksonville Skilled Nursing, Illinois Electric Cooperative, Farm Credit Illinois, Illinois Sheriffs’ Association and Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 3.

LLCC-Taylorville carpentry class donates final projects to animal shelter

Students in the Structural Carpentry Concepts class (BDM 106) at LLCC-Taylorville recently donated doghouses and cat perches to Christian County Animal Control. For their final project in the class, students could choose which item to design and build, with the goal of donating it to the shelter.

“I’m a strong believer in community service,” explains Ed Legg, LLCC adjunct instructor. “When I had the opportunity for the students to complete a final project, putting the two together was seamless. Students utilized the skills they learned in Structural Carpentry Concepts and also learned the value of community service.”

“Christian County Animal Control is very happy to be a part of the learning process and to have great partnerships like LLCC within the community,” says Vince Harris, director of operations for Christian County Animal Control and Zoning. “From myself and all of the staff here at CCAC, we would like to thank the students in the BDM 106 class that have put in the work to make all of these wonderful projects. Also, we hope that the students have taken away a wealth of knowledge from their efforts.”

LLCC provided Microsoft Teams training for Litchfield National Bank the evenings of Nov. 10 and 17 at LLCC-Litchfield. The training was led by an expert instructor and tailored to the bank’s needs and employee goals.

“The Microsoft Teams training evening customized by LLCC for LNB was tremendous,” said Mike Fleming, CEO of LNB. “Our folks learned a lot quickly that will allow them to do their jobs better. The Litchfield facility is wonderful, and our instructor was energetic. I found real value in that fact that it was cost effective, and that high quality education is available locally.”

“We were pleased to partner with Litchfield National Bank to help their employees gain new skills,” said Jessie Blackburn, director, LLCC-Litchfield. “We invite other businesses and industries to contact us to arrange for customized, local training.”

LLCC offers a variety of customized training opportunities on topics including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, as well as customer service and leadership.

LLCC in Litchfield and Taylorville to host financial aid events

LLCC-Litchfield, 1 Lincoln Land Drive, will host Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, Oct. 13 from 4-8 p.m. LLCC-Taylorville, 800 S. Spresser, will host Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 4-8 p.m. The events will assist high school seniors and their parents/guardians in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

An online registration form and more information on documents to bring to the event are available at www.llcc.edu/litchfield or www.llcc.edu/taylorville. Registration is also available by calling 217-786-3401 (Litchfield) or 217-786-2754 (Taylorville).

Current LLCC students who will be attending college next year are invited to attend as well. Prospective students may take a tour of the facilities and get assistance with enrollment steps.
