LLCC Adult Ed staff and instructors participate in IACEA conference

The week of March 4-6, the Illinois Adult and Continuing Educators Association (IACEA) annual state conference for Adult Education was held in Springfield. Nineteen LLCC instructors and staff attended OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAsessions during the three-day conference. One of LLCC’s ESL instructors, Hannah Bonifacius, attended on a scholarship from the Secretary of State Literacy office after submitting an application and essay. She is on the far right in the attached photo of other scholarship winners. In addition to paying her conference fee, she attended a dinner with the literacy director and staff.

Anita Kerr, adult education coordinator, and Lyn Buerkett, director, Adult Education and Literacy, presented at the conference, as part of a panel on taking literacy projects to the next level, and Angela Gerberding, ESL coordinator, presented a session on English Language Civics.

Finals Week at LLCC

It’s finals week at LLCC!

BOOK BUYBACK is today-Thurs., 8:30-5, Friday 8:30-4 in the Bookstore. Buyback at Jacksonville, Taylorville, Litchfield and Beardstown will be Tuesday-Thurs., 9-5.

Student Life will be offering free massages Monday and Tuesday, 10am-2pm in A. Lincoln Commons for those who sign up in the Student Life Office.  Also, the Shape Up Club will be in A. Lincoln Commons Monday through Thursday, 9am-2pm with Brain Food!

Adult Education will conduct its annual Celebration of Success ceremony Wednesday, May 14. The evening begins with music by the LLCC Big Band at 6 p.m., followed by the ceremony at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Union of Menard Hall.

A reminder that  the combined retirement reception for David Laubersheimer, dean of Arts and Humanities, and Glenda Thomas, assistant to the dean of Arts and Humanities, will be Thursday, May 15, 2 to 4 p.m. in the Trutter Center.

Commencement will take place on Friday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield.  For details, click HERE.

Beardstown ESL students & families visit IL State Museum

Students of the Beardstown ESL class and their families who are enrolled in the Secretary of State Penny Severns Family Literacy program in Beardstown took a field trip to the Illinois State Museum this past Saturday. Students and families enjoyed the museum, especially the children’s activity area.

Intermediate level English as a Second Language (ESL) class toured Workforce Development Center Tuesday.
