¡Muchas Gracias!

National Hispanic Heritage Month. Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power and Progress in America!
The National Hispanic Heritage Month Committee is overwhelmingly grateful to all of the amazing volunteers who helped with our events and activities this year. We had a wonderful time celebrating Hispanic heritage, and we were thrilled to discover more fluent Spanish speakers on LLCC’s faculty and staff.

A special shout out to Esteban Cruz for the palomitas sabor chile y limón (spicy popcorn with lime) and Leslie Stalter for the beautiful display of papel picado (Mexican banners). Also, thank you to Cody Cox and Leslie Stalter for managing the Spanish translations table during the fiesta.

Thanks to LLCC Facility Services and Information Technology’s audio system team for the setup of events and providing for our audio needs. Also, thank you to LLCC Public Relations and Marketing staff for providing the promotional materials including posters, digital sign and social media postings.

We thank our volunteers including Sue Alexander, Kyla Kruse, Mackenzie Bryant, Katrina Quattlander, Amanda Turner, Lisa Clanton, Leanne Roseberry, Karen Sanders, Gailyn Draper, Kim Wilson, April Bergman, Laurie Clemons, Brandon Lewis, Shanda Byer, Brenda Elliott, Josh Collins and Kayla Weitzel. And thank you to anyone we may have missed on the volunteer list.

We invite everyone back next year to celebrate the vibrant heritage and contributions of Hispanics in America!

Cybersecurity: Using strong passwords and a password manager

2 Long, 2 Unique and 2 Complex — Passwords

LLCC cybersecurity awareness campaign logo: Secure Your Screen. Shows five movie type posters.Welcome to Week 2 of cybersecurity awareness month! Just like you need a unique ticket for each movie you attend, you should also have a unique password for all your online accounts. Don’t reuse the same password across websites. If one of those sites gets compromised, hackers will also try that password on other sites. No matter the account, all passwords should be created with these three words in mind:

  • Long — Use st least 12 characters.
  • Unique — Never reuse passwords. Each account needs its own unique password.
  • Complex — Use a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters. Some websites will even let you include spaces.

If you haven’t already, install a password manager. Never write passwords down. Password managers not only let you manage all your online accounts’ unique passwords, but they have some other advantages:

  • Save you time.
  • Work across all your devices and operating systems.
  • Protect your identity.
  • Notify you of potential phishing websites.

Look for this week’s Secure Your Screen poster on bulletin boards around campus.

Thank you for removing our organization from the hackers’ cast list.
