LLCC to host transfer fairs today and tomorrow

The LLCC Office of Student Success will be hosting the State University Transfer Day (SUTD) on Monday, Feb. 24, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Private Illinois Colleges and Universities (PICU) Transfer Fair on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Both events will be held in A. Lincoln Commons and are for current students looking to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor’s degree. Please encourage your students in transfer majors to attend these events.

SUTD attendees include: Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois University, Governors State University, Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville, University of Illinois – Chicago, University of Illinois – Springfield, University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign and Western Illinois University.

PICU attendees include: Bradley University, Columbia College – Chicago, DePaul University, Dominican University, Greenville University, Illinois College, Illinois Wesleyan University, Loyola University – Chicago, McKendree University, Methodist College, Millikin University, Monmouth College, National Louis University, North Park University, Olivet Nazarene University, Quincy University, St. Francis Medical Center – Nursing and St. John’s College of Nursing.

LLCC to host Illinois Poet Laureate, Angela Jackson

LLCC’s English and Humanities Department and Writing Center, in partnership with the Springfield Area Arts Council and Poetry Out Loud will host Illinois’ Poet Laureate in residence, Angela Jackson, on March 20 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Writing Center.

As part of her visit, Jackson will facilitate a poetry writing workshop and speak about her life, her inspirations and her experiences as Illinois Poet Laureate. Additionally, she will read from her collections including, “It Seems Like a Mighty Long Time.”

Transition to TrueDialog Messaging System

Mongoose, True Dialog logo.The college is currently transitioning to a new text messaging system called TrueDialog. As part of this change, our current system, Mongoose Cadence, will be shut down by Feb. 28. All Mongoose Cadence messages will be exported and archived for future reference.

If you are a Mongoose Cadence user and do not yet have a TrueDialog account or need assistance with the new system, please contact the IT Help Desk as soon as possible.

In the community

Karen Sanders, vice president, advancement/exec director, LLCC Foundation, Jessie Blackburn, director, LLCC-Litchfield, and Wayne Rosenthal, LLCC Board of Trustees, were among the guests at this year’s Hillsboro Health Foundation Gala. The event raises money to provide local hospital and therapy services. LLCC offers the practical nursing (LPN) program and dual credit basic nurse assistant (CNA) courses at Hillsboro Hospital.

Katie McDannald, administrative assistant at LLCC-Jacksonville, recently received the First National Bank of Arenzville, Jacksonville and South Jacksonville Blue Diamond Community Service Award for her volunteerism and commitment to the greater Jacksonville community. Katie was also recently featured in The Source, a local Jacksonville newspaper, for her creative and hilarious TikTok videos — many times promoting LLCC and featuring her fellow staff members at LLCC — Jacksonville and Beardstown.

LLCC’s Trutter Museum/Murray Gallery to feature faculty art show March 3-April 3

2025 Faculty art show at Trutter MuseumThe Trutter Museum/Murray Gallery at Lincoln Land Community College will host the 2025 LLCC Faculty Art Show from March 3-April 3. The public is invited to a reception, which will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on March 6. The exhibit is open for viewing weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The exhibit showcases the talents of the LLCC art and design faculty and dean. The works are from the 2024-2025 school year and represent a variety of media, ranging from video to fiber. Artists include Laura Anderson, Mitchell Brenghause, Ashley Dickey, Adam Dupuis, Bryon Hartley, Jazzy Quick Kennedy, Jeff Miller, Megan Rigoni-McCormic, Kerri Risch, Matthew Shaver, Al Shull, Leslie Stalter, Adam Watkins and Thom Whalen.

LLCC offers an associate of fine arts degree in studio art and an associate in applied science degree in integrated media design to prepare students for university transfer and/or careers in the art, graphic design and multimedia technology fields. More than 30 employees enjoyed the Heart Safety Expo held on Wednesday, Feb. 19 by visiting with local area vendors and LLCC students and staff.
