Maintenance on LLCC-Springfield phone system planned for March 11
On March 11th at 2:00pm AT&T will port over all our phone lines (except analog) on main campus from our current PRI circuits to our new Internet-based IP-FLEX connection. The plan is to have no downtime during this process, however giving the complexity of what will be done some phone numbers may experience temporary outages or malfunctions. The college will be closed for spring break that week.
SURS Coming To Professional Development Day March 25
The Professional Development Day Planning Committee is busy planning the spring event to be held on March 25, including a presentation conducted by SURS on pension reform. This 75-minute presentation will take place immediately following the LEAGUE Employee Campaign luncheon. This presentation is the same presentation referred to in an email sent on Thursday (2/20) afternoon by the SURS Advocate. More programming information will be out soon!
Major gifts to “Grow Beyond” campaign received
The LLCC Foundation is pleased to announce that Bank of Springfield has made the first of several major gifts recently received for “Grow Beyond,” the campaign to raise $2.5 million for the LLCC Foundation Endowment. The bank also proudly employs 50 LLCC grads, and is also underwriting a state-of-the-art scoreboard for the baseball field. Evernote: A Great Way to Get Organized!

Evernote is a great tool that allows users to easily document, organize, archive, collaborate, and share ideas and content. Notes, which can be formatted text, webpages, photos, voice memos, or handwritten notes, may be stored, managed, and made accessible to students and colleagues. Evernote’s cloud-based services allow users to sync their content between multiple computers and mobile devices.

If you liked the game “Mousetrap”… check this out! The State Journal Register ran this advance story and video Feb. 19 on LLCC’s hosting of the annual 5th grade Rube Goldberg engineering competition Feb. 22. Bill Bade, dean of math and sciences, was among those interviewed for the story.

2014 Paul Simon Student Essay Contest
The 2014 Paul Simon Student Essay Contest is under way! Please encourage students to participate for a chance to win $500! Essays must be submitted via email to writingcenter@llcc.edu by 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24.
Submission Guidelines
– Essay submissions must be 500 words or less.
– Submissions must be typed.
– Essays must address the topic: “How My Community College Has Changed My Life.”
Students are encouraged to schedule appointments with the Writing Center to review essays before submission.
The first place local winner’s essay submission will be forwarded to the state-wide competition for the chance to win $500 toward education expenses for the Fall 2014 Semester and an honorary invitation to attend the Illinois Community College Association’s award banquet on June 6, 2014. Local prizes will also be awarded by LLCC Foundation.

Hugh Garvey, assistant vice president of construction, was interviewed by WCIA-TV Feb. 19 regarding LLCC’s Workforce Careers Center being one of the LEED certified buildings in the state of Illinois.
Nancy Sweet was busy with media interviews yesterday. WFMB-AM’s (Sports Radio 1450’s) Shawn Balint came to Bistro Verde for an in-depth interview about the Bistro opening to the public for lunch, along with LLCC culinary programs. The State Journal-Register’s Chris Dettro and photographer David Spencer came out to take photos and interview Nancy and Bistro patrons including Ben Roth, Art Meyer, Scott Ebbing and Amanda Logsdon for a story scheduled to run Monday.

Campus Visit Day has been rescheduled to Monday, March 3! Two sessions will be available–morning, 9-11:30 a.m. and evening, 5-7:30 p.m. Check-in and Information Session will be held in the Trutter Center, with exhibits on display in A.
