Volunteers for April 8 Read-A -Thon

The Child Development Center will be holding a Read-A-Thon on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am.  We are looking for volunteers to read to small groups of children throughout the hour.  All you need to provide is a lap, children will provide you with a book to read!  Please dress comfortably as you will be sitting on the floor!!!  This event is being planned as part of our annual “Week of the Young Child” celebration.

Weight Watchers At Work Series Open House April 10

Come to an open house right here at work and see for yourself how Weight Watchers can give you the inspiration and motivation you need to begin and maintain your weight loss goals.  The current group of Weight Watchers at Work participants will be hosting a Smoothie Social on April 10 at 11:45am in Menard 2215.  Stop by!!

2nd VP, Administrative Services Candidate Open Forum today, 1:30-2, R.H. Stephens

You are encouraged to attend an open forum today, 1:30-2 p.m., R. H. Stephens Room for the second of two candidates for the Vice President-Administrative Services.

This is an opportunity for the campus community to meet the candidates and ask questions. March Shared Governance Council Meeting Minutes posted

At the March Shared Governance council meeting, a recommendation regarding the Professional Development Team was drafted and the council heard an issue regarding faculty taking classes that was recently put before Faculty Senate.  The council also heard about a new Student Success Workgroup and planned for Team elections in April.  Look out for an email from your constituency for a chance to volunteer or nominate coworkers for positions on the 7 Teams!  Click HERE to view the full meeting minutes.

Retirement party for Tyra Taylor April 25

Spots still available in Community Garden

The community garden located behind the Workforce Careers Center is open for registration to all faculty, staff, and students at Lincoln Land Community College. Raised beds are available for $20 for the 2014 growing season. If you would like one bed the course number is WST 035-01WF and if you would like to reserve two beds the course number is WST 035-02WF. Please contact Marnie Record at 6-4993 for more information about the garden and for your raised bed assignment. Nancy Sweet and Jolene Adams  of the culinary program performed food demos Friday at the downtown Hilton for  a Women’s Health Fair, promoting the culinary opportunities at LLCC.  Click HERE for the yummy recipe they prepared!

In the News-Lisa Collier, Kevin Lust and Truck Driver Training

Lisa Collier, assistant VP, Financial Aid, was interviewed March 31 by FOX-55 for a story that evening on avoiding student loan debt. Several students were also interviewed.

Kevin Lust, director, ISBDC at LLCC, was interviewed by Fox 55 News while speaking to the Sangamon CEO class of high school students about business plans. The interview was set to air March 31.

The April Springfield Business Journal features a story on Truck Driver Training’s special classes for laid off coal miners from Crowne III mine. Bob Howard, director, is featured along with several students.
