EHST Safety Tip of the Month

The March safety tip brought to you by the Environmental Health & Safety Team:

Violent weather in Illinois can strike at any time. While we obviously can’t control these natural forces we can plan ahead and prepare for them.

As a National Weather Service Storm Ready Site LLCC is committed to safety and storm readiness and offers the following tips:

  • Monitor the weather and be aware of watches and warnings
  • Have a plan and a survival kit should severe weather strike while you are at home
  • Take a minute to familiarize yourself with emergency evacuation routes and safe areas while away from home

For more information about emergency weather preparedness, click HERE or visit the Environmental Health and Safety Page.

Upcoming Events at LLCC

Monday, March 31st: Chad Pregracke presents Helping to Clean America’s Rivers: From the Bottom Up! Come to the Trutter Center at 1pm to hear Chad Pregracke’s empowering, compelling and fascinating story. He is the founder of America’s only “industrial strength” river clean-up organization, Living Lands & Waters. Chad tells a compelling and funny story about growing up on the river and how his river experiences led to his unique vision to clean up the Mississippi River.

From the darkness of underwater shell-diving to the brightness of open-air community clean-ups, Chad’s tale embodies the importance of setting goals (one river and one piece of garbage at a time) and illustrates how determination hard-work and persistence pays off.  This is a Red & Blue Crew event and sponsored by the Logger Activities Board.

A sincere thank-you from Doris Williams

Regarding the recent loss of my mother, I wish to thank all of the LLCC family who sent cards or flowers, offered prayers and/or words of comfort and encouragement, attended the services, or maybe just thought about me and my family during this difficult time.  Your thoughtfulness did not go unnoticed and meant so much to me.  It is so nice to know that people you work with care about you in this way.  Thanks again.

Penny Wars is coming to LLCC!

LLCC’s L.E.A.G.U.E. Committee invites you to get a team together to participate in Penny Wars!  Penny Wars is a fun competition to see who can collect the most pennies and raise funds for the LLCC Foundation Pay It Forward Fund.  To participate, contact Barb Eades at Barbara.Eades@llcc.edu or at extension 6-2255 now through March 24 to receive a container. Containers can be decorated to add to the fun.  Then, start collecting pennies in your department or area.  You can sabotage your opponents by placing silver coins or paper money in their containers.  Bring your containers to the L.E.A.G.U.E. luncheon on Tuesday, March 25 by 11:30 am in the Student Union to collect more money.  All money collected will go to the LLCC Foundation’s Pay It Forward Fund, which helps students who need emergency assistance.
