LLCC-Jacksonville Theatre hits the road Dec. 5 as instructor Ken Bradbury’s Traveling Theatre troupe begins a four-day marathon of performances in 16 area elementary schools. The play, “Make A Wish,” brings an entertaining message encouraging the thousands in their audience to treat each other with respect and love. The cast will perform on Dec. 5, 6, 12 and 13.

Trustees approve membership in energy consortium for purchase of natural gas and electricity
With expectations of saving more than $90,000 per year in energy costs, the Board of Trustees last night authorized college membership in the Illinois Energy Consortium (IEC) for the purchase of natural gas at all LLCC locations and electricity at locations in Jacksonville, Beardstown and Litchfield.

Message from Dr. Warren
As you all know, a Quality Checkup team affiliated with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) visited our campus on Nov. 6 and 7. During their visit, the team held conversations with several groups in order to affirm the accuracy of our Systems Portfolio; gauge the impact of Action Projects at LLCC; understand our commitment to continuous quality improvement; and confirm compliance with accreditation expectations. And while the Quality Checkup team does not make any official recommendation for reaffirming our accreditation, they did share their observations of LLCC during the closing sessions. The comments were favorable, and the team offered recommendations that were generally consistent with the Systems Appraisal Feedback Report. We anticipate receiving our Quality Checkup Report in January and will update everyone as additional information from the HLC is shared.
Please remember that reaffirmation of our accreditation in AQIP is not a separate, standalone procedure. Rather, it is a summative review of our work with AQIP core processes (i.e., Systems Portfolio, Action Projects, and Quality Checkup) as well as demonstrating that we meet the Commission’s Criteria for Accreditation. We anticipate that the HLC’s AQIP Review Panel will examine that larger body of evidence for LLCC in March of 2014. The Institutional Action Council (IAC) would then take action regarding our accreditation status in May of 2014.

Reception highlights green partnership
A reception at Maldaner’s Restaurant in downtown Springfield Nov. 20 highlighted a partnership between Maldaner’s and LLCC. The LLCC Green Center’s Julie Rourke, director of workforce development, wrote for a grant from the Illinois Green Economy Network to provide solar panels on the rooftop of Maldaner’s. LLCC renewable energy students will use the panels for educational purposes, and Maldaner’s expects to reduce its carbon emissions by 20.1 tons per year. Black Student Union raises $200 for American Diabetes Assoc.

Prairie Burns on Springfield Campus
LLCC will be conducting controlled burns on the prairie areas of campus over the next few weeks, weather permitting. The burns will be conducted on the upper prairie on the north side of Menard Hall, on the south and west sides of the Workforce Careers Center and on both sides of the entrance to campus.
The controlled burns are a coordinated effort of LLCC’s Facilities Services department, biology classes and the LLCC Environmental Club. The burns have been approved by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
“The Assassination of President Kennedy” lecture Nov. 20
The Student Life Office is hosting a lecture entitled “The Assassination of President Kennedy” on Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. The free event is being held in the Trutter Center at the LLCC-Springfield campus.
Dr. Jack Gordon, Kennedy assassination speaker and consultant, will cover many aspects and unknown issues of the President John F. Kennedy assassination, including what is known now about the JFK assassination that was not known or acknowledged during prior investigations, why President Kennedy was murdered, why the medical evidence is the key to understanding whether there was a conspiracy, how the investigation into President Kennedy’s murder could be re-opened, why the media coverage of the JFK assassination is so biased and whether Robert Kennedy was truly on the trail of his brother’s murderers.
