The LLCC Foundation yesterday launched a $2.5-million endowment fund campaign called “Grow Beyond.”

“Our theme, ‘Grow Beyond,’ reflects the purpose of the endowment fund,” said Karen Sanders, executive director of the LLCC Foundation. “LLCC graduates ‘grow beyond’ by continuing their education or doing vital work in our communities. Additionally, a strong endowment fund broadens educational opportunities, truly helping all communities we touch to ‘grow beyond.’”

Excitement at the bird banding station

yellow fronted canary

A bird was caught Wednesday that stumped master bird bander Vern Kleen, and that is unheard of!  It was an exotic species called a Yellow-fronted Canary, native to Africa. As far as we know, there are not any breeding populations in the Midwest and there is no indication that this bird was ever captive.  If there is general agreement within the birding community that this was not an escapee, and there are no records of this species in the Midwest, the capture of this bird will be HUGE in the birding world. Biology Professor Tony Rothering will keep us posted!

Justin Reichert, chair, LLCC Board of Trustees, published this essay in the SJ-R Sept. 1: “LLCC’s impact-by the numbers.”

The Academy of Lifelong Learning holds its fall kickoff Sept. 10. The SJ-R did this advance story on the event.

SO magazine featured a photo spread on the LLCC Foundation’s reception in July for the new, retrospective Philip Trutter exhibit in the Trutter Museum, as well as the May gala “Black and White.”
