Bistro Verde dinner benefits culinary scholarships

img_3289This past Saturday evening, Sergio (Satch) Pecori from Hanson Engineering and Mike Aiello from Troxell Insurance prepared and sponsored the “Joys of the Table” dinner in Bistro Verde. They were assisted by LLCC Chef Sean Keeley and the night was coordinated by LLCC Culinary Institute Coordinator Jolene Adams with assistance from Jay Kitterman. Aiello and Pecori personally paid for the dinner expenses, and proceeds will go toward culinary scholarships.

LLCC Academy of Lifelong Learning to hold Chilli Supper Sept. 18

The Academy of Lifelong Learning (ALL) is holding a Chilli Supper Sunday, Sept. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to the event being held at Temple B’rith Sholom Social Hall, 1004 S. Fourth St., Springfield.

The supper will feature “chilli” made by Les Eastep, famous Springfield chilli chef and cook-off judge. There will also be hot dogs or chilli dogs available, as well as beverages and desserts. Those that cannot stay have the option to carry out. Tickets for the supper are $7, youth ages 8 and under are free.

The event will include a book and puzzle exchange along with exhibits about Academy of Lifelong Learning programs and activities. New this year, we will have a trivia contest at 2 p.m. We are looking for teams of 10 and the cost to participate will be $10 per person. The winning team will receive a $150 prize.

The LLCC Academy of Lifelong Learning is a membership group of adults 50 and greater devoted to the lifelong pursuit of learning. With 10 to 12 opportunities available each month, the Academy provides enjoyable experiences in learning with a variety of opportunities to develop new friendships.

Thank you to the LLCC Board of Trustees, Dr. Charlotte Warren, Faculty, and Staff for the donation to the Shriners Hospital for Children in memory of my father, George Koch. I would like to thank the Student Services division for the beautiful flowers at the funeral and thank my co-workers for the beautiful jewelry music box to remember my father. Thank you to my LLCC family (current and retired) for the sympathy cards, food, hugs, and all forms of condolences given to me and my family. Sen. Dick Durbin holds press conference regarding ITT Tech; praises LLCC’s efforts to assist displaced students

durbin-and-warrenU.S. Senator Dick Durbin held a press conference yesterday to praise Lincoln Land Community College and others who are stepping up to assist displaced students from the now closed ITT Technical Institutes across the country. Dr. Charlotte Warren, Ph.D., said LLCC had formed a team to assist ITT Tech students with a designated special advisor and walk-in career counseling today and tomorrow. She also noted that LLCC is assisting ITT employees through response team efforts with the local WorkNet office.

LLCC’s designated special advisor for ITT students is Michelle Burger, career development specialist. A phone number (217.786.9600) and email address (ITT-Transfer@llcc.edu) have been established for ITT students to use for personalized assistance.

The special walk-in career counseling is happening today from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Enrollment Services area of Menard Hall.

Bistro to Go opens today!

Bistro to Go opens today for lunch service during the fall semester! Browse the menu including soups, salads, sandwiches, baked goods, coffee drinks and smoothies. Specials for this week are Shrimp and Chicken Paella and Meatloaf with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans.

Bistro To Go will be open Mondays and Wednesdays 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Sept. 12 through Nov. 16. Orders can be placed in person, by telephone at 786-2821 or by email at bistroverde@llcc.edu  (instructions on Bistro Verde website).

On Thursdays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Stop by Bistro Grab n Go to pick up pre-made hot or cold soups, salads, sandwiches, snacks, baked goods and other quick items.  Beverages such as tea, sodas, coffee, and specialty coffees will be available, too!

LLCC Culinary Institute included in new book, “100 Things to Do in Springfield Before You Die”

A new book entitled, “100 Things to Do in Springfield Before You Die,” by Penny Zimmerman-Wills lists the LLCC Culinary Institute as one of those things to experience.  She interviewed Nancy Sweet, director of culinary programs and operations, for a past SO magazine. The book is for sale at several local stores and online through Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
