LLCC campaign through United Way begins today!
LLCC’s campaign through United Way to give back to our community begins today and runs through Friday, Nov. 4. The college chooses to participate in this campaign to give employees a convenient way to help with the immediate needs of our friends and neighbors, as well as working toward positive change for the future.
What makes gifts to United Way unique? You can designate your gift to one or more qualified 501(c)3 charitable organizations (see www.secaillinois.org for a list), or make an undesignated gift. An undesignated gift funds programs in Central Illinois addressing greatest needs. You don’t have to decide between helping children, seniors or individuals needing a warm meal and a place to stay. An investment in United Way improves our community by wrapping services around families and individuals by investing in programs aligned with Basic Needs, Education, Financial Stability and Health. Dedicated volunteers, with issue area specific expertise, evaluate local programs from United Way Community Partners and make sure your investment is making the greatest impact possible.
See how community volunteers are setting goals with measurable outcomes to help with immediate needs in the community while also impacting the future in this 2016 Campaign Video.
Please return your pledge forms, which were sent to your employee mailbox, to your employee representative by Nov. 4.
Thank you!

LLCC observes Campus Sustainability Day Oct. 26
Lincoln Land Community College is celebrating Campus Sustainability Day Wednesday, Oct. 26. The public is invited to join a campus sustainability tour and attend “Lunch and Learn” at the LLCC-Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.
The campus sustainability tour will begin at the Workforce Careers Center at 10 a.m. Discover what’s green about our campus while enjoying time outside on this walking tour. Highlights include the community garden and high tunnels, native prairie and bee hives. In addition, information about the LLCC Green Center will be on display outside A. Lincoln Commons and the campus community will have the opportunity to contribute to sidewalk chalk art.
“Lunch and Learn” will take place at noon at the outdoor classroom located next to Sangamon Hall. Bring your lunch and learn about energy efficiency and cost-saving opportunities currently available to area residents. A representative from Elevate Energy, a nonprofit organization, will help you understand how basic changes in building design, maintenance and monitoring can decrease energy use and create savings. Free snacks will be available.
All events are free and open to the public. For more information, call 786.2407.
Join the LLCC team to help at Girls on the Run!
As part of the 50 Acts of Service in conjunction with the college’s 50th Anniversary, LLCC is putting together a WATER STOP team to volunteer at the Girls on the Run 5K. All staff and faculty are welcome to participate. Please sign up by Oct. 27! If you would like to join the volunteer team or if you have any questions, email Laurel.Bretz@llcc.edu.
Date: Saturday, November 5, 2016
Time: 9:30a.m.-noon
Location: Lincoln Land Community College
Volunteer Role Description:
- The Water Stop Team will meet at the Volunteer Check-In Tent and walk out to the corner of Shepherd Road and West Lake Shore Drive. There are two water stops, with two tables each, directly across the road from each other.
- As volunteers arrive, begin filling cups. There will be water barrels and pitchers to help fill the cups. Volunteers will need to fill two levels of cups on each table (use Styrofoam boards to separate) to handle the rush of runners that will arrive. Supplies include tables, water barrels, pitchers, cups, Styrofoam boards, trash bags and rakes.
- As you operate the water stop, some volunteers should continually be filling cups while the majority of people line the road and hand out water.
- You do not need to fill the cups all the way up – they should be filled about half-way or even less. This is proper race etiquette so that participants will keep running/walking and to ensure there is plenty of water for all participants.
- Cheer the participants on and have fun!
- After the final race sweeper and/or SportsCare follow car comes through (indicating no other runners/walkers remain on the course) the team can clean up the area by raking up all used paper cups and putting in garbage bags. Move the water stop tables, trash cans, and supplies off of the side of the road, clearing the area for traffic. The supplies will be picked up by the truck after the race.
- Be on the lookout for girls – or community runners – who may need assistance. There will be additional First Aid volunteers stationed at the Water Stop.
Thank you from SAVE Task Force
SAVE Task Force would like to thank everyone who participated in Domestic Violence Awareness Week of Action events. In a symbolic display of our refusal to accept domestic violence in our society, 104 students, staff, and faculty members participated in “Take a Stand Tuesday.” Throughout the week, 97 LLCC community members pledged to use their education, experiences, and voices to be active in the fight against all forms of sexual violence, including domestic and intimate partner violence. Jeans Day raised $175, which the Feminist Activist Coalition will donate to Sojourn Shelter and Services, a local domestic violence shelter and service agency. Through the stories and pledges shared by participants, it is now clearer than ever that we are a community of engaged and thoughtful citizens, activists, survivors, and supporters.
If you have not yet taken the pledge and wish to do so, we encourage you to download the pledge here and return it to Shelby Bedford in Menard 1143 (across from Admission & Registration).
Special thanks to those who signed up to take a stand throughout the day, ensuring someone was representing the movement at all times during the day on Tuesday:
