Juneteenth Fact of the Day

The Journey of JuneteenthOpal Lee is called the grandmother of Juneteenth. She began walking state to state in 2016 to draw the attention of lawmakers, to have the date declared a federal holiday. Congress passed legislation declaring it so. President Biden signed the bill into law on June 17, 2021. Read more at Mental Floss.

Make plans to celebrate Juneteenth Freedom Day at LLCC on June 19, 2024, with the second annual Freedom Walk at 8:30 a.m. Each day before the celebration, the LLCC Juneteenth Committee will share a fact about this historic day.

All accepted participants (limit of 15 teaching faculty) will be offered $1,500 or $2,000 stipends to develop a curriculum module based on some aspect of the workshop theme and then present it in a future MIIIE Conference in 2025 or 2026. Autism Employee Resource Group

Autism touches the lives of many of our staff across all of the LLCC locations, and at times it can be a difficult thing to navigate. A new Employee Resource Group has been formed to help employees connect, ask questions and share resources with each other! If you have children, family or identify yourself on the spectrum and would like to be added to the Teams group, please contact Kim Alexander or Rachel Duff.
