Student Services, Bookstore and Outreach Centers offering extended hours

There is still time to register for spring 2022 classes at LLCC. The spring semester begins Jan. 8, and weekday classes begin Monday, Jan. 10.

LLCC Student Services, Bookstore and Outreach Centers are open this week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (5 p.m. on Friday). On Saturday, Jan. 8, Student Services and the bookstore will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Three class formats will be offered at LLCC this spring. Traditional, face-to-face courses take place in a classroom on regular days and times. Online courses allow students to learn entirely via the internet on their own schedules. Hybrid options provide a combination of online and face-to-face learning.

Current students may register for classes via LoggerCentral at llcc.edu/logger-central or by phone. New students should first fill out an application at llcc.edu/apply or visit llcc.edu/getting-started for more information. Students may also call the Springfield campus (217-786-2292) or an LLCC Outreach Center in Jacksonville (217-243-6699), Beardstown (217-323-4103), Taylorville (217-786-2754) or Litchfield (217-786-3401).

Our sympathy to Cathy Huffman and friends/family of retiree Mark Harbaugh

We extend our condolences to Cathy Huffman, career coach in career services, on the passing of her father, William Edson, on Dec. 29. A private family inurnment is planned.

Also, our sympathy to friends and family of retiree Mark Harbaugh, who worked at LLCC from 1981-2001. He retired with the title of associate vice president of workforce and continuing education. Read the obituary.

Mental health first aid training opportunity; sign up by Oct. 25

LLCC Student Success is happy to announce a great training opportunity for you: Mental Health First Aid! Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training covers the following topics: common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges; common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges; how to interact with a person in crisis; how to connect a person with help; and expanded content on trauma, substance use and self-care. Many of the staff in Student Services have been through this training and feel that it is very useful in gaining some of the tools needed to recognize signs/symptoms of mental health challenges. We all play an important role in helping identify, support, and refer students that may need additional assistance. This training is not intended to make anyone a counselor; rather, we believe that this provides great tools to help folks that are uniquely positioned in student-facing roles to feel more confident in providing initial support.

We have two training opportunities for you, both via Zoom, conducted by a certified MHFA trainer from Heritage Behavioral Health Center. There are only 20 spots for each training, so get signed up as soon as possible. For the training, there is 1-2 hours of required pre-work that needs to be completed prior to your training date. If the pre-work is not completed, you will not be able to attend the training. The pre-work is an online module, including watching a webinar and pre-test. The 2 opportunities are listed below. Please note that you will have to commit to be present during the entire training.

Faculty and staff invited to TRIO lunch and learn Nov. 9

Join LLCC TRIO Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. in the R. H. Stephens Room to celebrate First-Generation College Week with a lunch and learn. We will begin with a Council for Opportunity in Education panel discussion, and following will be a discussion and question/answer with LLCC TRIO staff. During the week of Aug. 16, LLCC Student Services, Bookstore and Outreach Centers will be open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 21, Student Services will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the bookstore from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Outreach Centers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Workforce 101 and Rapid Enrollment Day events today

Workforce 101 July 28For those interested in a hands-on career, a Workforce 101 event is being held today from 5-8 p.m. Attendees can try their hands at construction, automotive technology, welding, culinary arts and hospitality, or aviation mechanics. Participants can roll up their sleeves to experience the kinds of work they would do on the job, and employers will be on hand to discuss careers in their industries. LLCC to hold Rapid Enrollment Days July 27-29

Picture yourself at LLCC Lincoln Land Community College this fall! Rapid Enrollment Days July 27, 28, 29.
To assist new students in enrolling for the fall semester, LLCC will hold “Rapid Enrollment Days” on the LLCC campus July 27-29.

“There’s still time to enroll at LLCC for fall 2021,” said Mac Warren, assistant director for recruitment and response. “We invite students to come to a Rapid Enrollment Day and get personalized assistance with enrollment no matter where they are in the process.

“LLCC is offering a wide selection of in-person, online and hybrid classes this fall,” Warren continued. “Even if you haven’t applied to college yet, we can get you started on your college degree.”

Rapid Enrollment Days are from 5-8 p.m. July 27; and 9-noon and 1-4 p.m. on both July 28 and 29. Students can visit displays about LLCC majors and transfer courses, take tours, talk to faculty and staff, complete the admission application and get their questions answered. If students have already applied to LLCC, options include attending a new student orientation, getting information on financial aid and assistance filling out the FAFSA, and registering for classes. All students who attend can receive a free Quiznos meal along with other refreshments and LLCC swag.
