Cybersecurity awareness training starting this week

As mentioned last month, we are about to begin a cybersecurity awareness training program with a company named Infosec IQ.  This will entail a series of short training courses (one or two a month) and potentially some simulated phishing emails.  These courses focus on subjects like password management, identity theft, malware, social engineering, phishing, spear phishing, physical security, Business Email Compromise (BEC), Internet of Things (IoT), travel safety, mobile data, privacy and acceptable use. The purpose of putting this training into place is to raise awareness to the threats in our environment and to avoid costly data breaches. Onboarding is a simple process. Users will be sent an enrollment email, notifying them of an assigned course. The provided link will take the learner directly to their dashboard to complete each corresponding module.

Cybercriminals like to send mixed signals. They may impersonate your supervisor or even Dr. Warren and make odd requests to wire money, purchase gift cards or share sensitive information.

Even if a request appears to come from a legitimate sender, verify using a different communication method. Give them a call, send them an instant message on Teams or drop by their desk to confirm. Better safe than sorry!

Cybersecurity: The brakes are your friend

Go slow. Cyber-attackers urge their targets to act quickly, making them take risks and not think things through. When you go slow and act carefully, you put the brakes on that attack. The Road to Cybersecurity. Slow, Claim Prize, Buy Now.Welcome to the Road to Cybersecurity! To kick things off, let’s start with one of the most important rules of the road — go slow.

As cyberattacks speed up, it’s even more important for each of us to take our time when checking emails, browsing the web and using connected devices.

Taking a few extra seconds could be the difference between a security breach and stopping an attack in its tracks.
