The road to cybersecurity: the importance of verification

The Road to Cybersecurity. Verify. From IT Team to You. Plz install update now. Hello, please click here to install the latest updates to your computer immediately. STOPThanks again for taking this trip on The Road to Cybersecurity! This week, we’re talking about the importance of verification.

Cybercriminals like to send mixed signals. They may impersonate your supervisor or even Dr. Warren and make odd requests to wire money, purchase gift cards or share sensitive information.

Even if a request appears to come from a legitimate sender, verify using a different communication method. Give them a call, send them an instant message on Teams or drop by their desk to confirm. Better safe than sorry!

Cybersecurity: Here’s your sign

Be suspicious. Hackers use fake messages to make you download dangerous attachments or give out important data. Always ask yourself: Could this be a trick? Download here. Free. The Road to Cybersecurity. LLCC Lincoln Land Community College. Infosec. The Road to Cybersecurity is lined with signs that indicate whether an email or web page is safe or a security threat.

Here’s the catch. Cybercriminals are smart and do their best to hide their tracks. That’s why it’s important to be suspicious.

Don’t be afraid to question the legitimacy of an email and if something looks suspicious — report it!

Cybersecurity: The brakes are your friend

Go slow. Cyber-attackers urge their targets to act quickly, making them take risks and not think things through. When you go slow and act carefully, you put the brakes on that attack. The Road to Cybersecurity. Slow, Claim Prize, Buy Now.Welcome to the Road to Cybersecurity! To kick things off, let’s start with one of the most important rules of the road — go slow.

As cyberattacks speed up, it’s even more important for each of us to take our time when checking emails, browsing the web and using connected devices.

Taking a few extra seconds could be the difference between a security breach and stopping an attack in its tracks.

Cyberattacks are speeding up. Read more about it: https://llcconline.sharepoint.com/IT/SitePages/Cybersecurity—News-Articles.aspx

Website content migration

Website content from www.llcc.edu will soon be migrated to a development site. The Web Team thanks administrators and website content managers for their assistance in evaluating content on pages to help us create an inviting and simplified experience for our prospective students to navigate.

As a reminder, we ask that any additional content updates/requests for removals be completed by Aug. 19 so that we can ensure they will be captured in migration.

While changes can still be made to the current site after Aug. 19, we ask that only priority updates be made because it will not be automatically transferred to the new site. Please note: After Aug. 19, content managers will need to keep a log of any changes made and what pages they are associated with so that we can work together to ensure it later gets updated on the new site as well.

Thank you for your help as we work through this process!

Laptop return

If you have not returned the laptop that was loaned to you for working remotely, please turn it in to the IT Help Desk as soon as possible. The IT Help Desk is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
