PTK & Play — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons (or outside, weather permitting) — sandwiches, snacks and games

Chapter Meeting & Game Night— 5:30-7 p.m. in R.H. Stephens Room — This chapter meeting is open to all and will be a time to enjoy playing games and getting to know each other. The event is co-sponsored by the LLCC Games Club.

Wednesday, Sept. 6

PTK will have a table at the Club Info Fair (10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons).

Thursday, Sept. 7

PTK Provisional Member Drive — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in A. Lincoln Commons — Sign up for a Phi Theta Kappa provisional membership for $5 (good for one semester)! The first 50 students to sign up will receive a goody bag.

LLCC’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society received chapter and individual recognitions at the PTK Regional Conference and Honors Institute Convention at Parkland College in Champaign June 2-4.

The chapter was honored as a Gold Star Chapter for maintaining their Five Star Chapter status, the highest level of achievement a chapter can earn, for the 10th year in a row. The chapter also received an Honors in Action Project Award and an Outstanding Chapter Award. Joey Gallo of Jacksonville, previous chapter president and recent LLCC graduate, received an Outstanding Chapter Officer Award. Isaac Barrett of Sherman, current chapter president, was sworn in as the Illinois region central vice president for the upcoming year.

LLCC officers in attendance included: Barrett, Lexie Ebersohl of Petersburg, Kevin Ehorn of Chatham, Alex Maher of Auburn and Courtney Todd of Southern View. During the conference, they learned more about their Honors in Action projects, enhanced leadership skills and networked with other chapters.

LLCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter is advised by Dr. Gillian Bauer, professor of English. The honor society is open to LLCC full-time students who maintain a 3.5 grade point average or above.

Phi Theta Kappa is the foremost honor society recognizing academic excellence in two-year college students. Its goals include promoting scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service. Benefits of membership include access to Phi Theta Kappa scholarships.

PTK Parking Spot Drawing winner announced

Reserved for Phi Theta Kappa WinnerThanks to everyone who participated in the Phi Theta Kappa Parking Spot Drawing. A total of $195 was raised to support chapter events and student travel to regional and national conferences.

The winner of the parking spot is Karla Wilham, IT specialist, who will have parking privileges in the PTK Winner spot outside Menard Hall for the entire 2023-2024 year. Congratulations, Karla!

LLCC’s PTK leaders attend Catalyst Convention

Attendees included: Joey Gallo, AJ Colletti, Dee Goings, Jesse Dees, Caitlin Little and Olivia Marchizza.

At the convention, attendees networked with around 3,000 student leaders from PTK’s 1,300 chapters throughout the United States and 11 other nations. They attended leadership development sessions and college recruitment events, participated in the election of international officers and attended motivational talks from well-known speakers like Geena Davis, Academy Award winning actor and founder of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender and Media, and Manti T’eo, former All-American and NFL linebacker.

LLCC’s PTK chapter is advised by Dr. Gillian Bauer, professor of English. The honor society is open to LLCC full-time students who maintain a 3.5 grade point average or above. The chapter has maintained five star status, the highest status available, within the PTK organization since 2013.

PTK is the foremost honor society recognizing academic excellence in two-year college students. Its goals include promoting scholarship, leadership, fellowship and service.

Three LLCC students named to Phi Theta Kappa All-Illinois Team

Dr. Gillian Bauer, PTK chapter advisor; Luke Adams; Dr. Joel Dykstra, interim associate vice president, academics; Austin Simmons; Dr. Jason Dockter, interim vice president, academics; Kortney Fisher; Dr. Charlotte Warren, president LLCC students Luke Adams of Athens, Kortney Fisher of Taylorville and Austin Simmons of Springfield were among top community college students from across the state honored April 27 as members of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Illinois Academic Team. The annual team banquet in downtown Springfield is sponsored by the Illinois Community College Board.

Luke AdamsAdams, an agriculture major, is active in the LLCC Ag Club and served as an Illinois Professional Agricultural Students (PAS) state officer and PTK chapter treasurer. He earned  the American FFA Degree, a prestigious honor awarded to less than 2% of FFA members. Following LLCC, he will transfer to Florida Gulf Coast University to study analytics and informatics with a minor in ag business.

Kortney FisherFisher, a neurodiagnostic technology major, is a recipient of the ASET Neurophysiology Society Scholarship and the Leona Stanford Vollintine Charitable Trust Scholarship through the LLCC Foundation. She is a consistent honoree on the LLCC President’s List, recognizing high academic achievement. Following graduation from LLCC, she plans to enter the workforce.

Austin SimmonsSimmons, a business administration major, is a non-profit organizer and martial arts instructor. He serves as board president of Project Animal Freedom’s Springfield chapter, leading the nonprofit in strategic community-building events and initiatives. After graduating from LLCC, he plans to transfer to the University of Illinois Springfield.

Phi Theta Kappa is the leading international academic honor society for students at two-year colleges. The All-Illinois Academic Team honors outstanding Illinois community college students and highlights the high-quality education provided by the 48 public community college and six private two-year colleges in the state.

Spring PTK Induction Ceremony today

The Alpha Epsilon Kappa chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is holding its Spring Induction Ceremony tonight, April 3, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Trutter Center. The keynote speaker will be Adam Watkins, dean of arts and communication and interim dean of English and humanities.

This event formally recognizes our new members and officers and is conducted in part by these student leaders in our chapter:
