Chris McDonald, Ph.D., professor, political science, spoke at the UIS Alumni SAGE Society’s Lunch and Learn program Nov. 7. His topic was “War, Medicine and Remembrance,” specifically Sangamon County’s involvement in WWI.

Culinary Institute co-sponsors Taste of Home Cooking School tonight

The LLCC Culinary Institute is a co-sponsor of the Taste of Home Cooking School at the Prairie Capital Convention Center this evening. The event begins at 7 p.m. but doors open at 4 p.m. for live cooking demonstrations, samples and booths. The Culinary Institute will have two tables and will be demonstrating various cooking techniques. Taste of Home Culinary Specialist Karen Davis visited a culinary class at LLCC Thursday. Culinary students will be assisting at the event.

Julie Rourke, director of workforce development, made a presentation at the Faith Coalition for the Common Good’s Jobs Summit and Workers Rights event Sept. 28. She spoke, along with Frank McNeil and Janice Gower, on LLCC and IDOT: Highway Construction Careers and the IDOT/LLCC Pre-Apprentice training program.

Nancy Sweet, culinary operations manager and Jay Kitterman, director of LLCC’s Culinary Institute and special events, presented to a group of 125 members of the Retired State Employees Association Tuesday. Nancy and Jay spoke about LLCC’s culinary credit and non-credit classes and programs. Nancy also demonstrated several ways to make healthy, simple and tasty dishes using chicken breasts.
